Jon
Weitz has joined Kiawah Island Resort as director of development and
General Council for the Resort. Weitz
comes to Kiawah from the firm of Nexsen Pruet Jacobs Pollard and Robinson, LLP
of downtown Charleston. His primary
focus will be on developmental concerns of the resort.
Brian
D. Gray joins the Civil Engineering section of General Engineering. A civil engineer with over two years of
experience, Gray will be involved primarily in stormwater design/management and
site remediation projects.
Lenwood
B. Howell has been named senior vice president by The National Bank of
South Carolina (NBSC). Howell has over
17 years banking experience and has been with NBSC since January 1993. Professionally, he is a member of Robert
Morris Associates, East Cooper Breakfast Rotary and an advisory board member of
Carolina Youth Development. NBSC also
has named Kevin W. Futrell as vice
president. Futrell has eight years of
banking experience and has been with NBSC since July 1992. Professionally, he is president of the
Greater Charleston Chapter of Robert Morris Associates.
George
Bullwinkel has been named senior vice president of SCANA Corporation with
added responsibilities for the companys governmental affairs and economic
development activities. In addition to
his new responsibilities, Bullwinkel will continue as president of SCANA
Communications, Inc., SCANAs telecommunications subsidiary, and serve on
SCANAs senior management staff.
Bullwinkel has worked for SCANA and SCE&G for 28 years. He is past
chairman of the Charleston Trident Development Board.
Krista
Meindertsma has joined the Charleston branch office of Advent
Environmental, Inc., a professional engineering and environmental consulting
firm, as marketing coordinator. She
previously worked in the marketing department of Ross Systems, Inc., a computer
software company in Atlanta. In her new
position, Meindertsma will be in charge of developing a media contact plan,
preparing proposal materials and producing new marketing materials.

C. Ellis was recently named CEO of Family Services, Inc., where he will
direct agency services. The following

Elizabeth
Fisher of Fisher Recycling has been promoted to director of
operations. Fisher Recycling is a
commercial recycling collection company that services offices, hotels, local
colleges and restaurants.
Scott
D. Love, CPA, has been appointed to the College of Charleston School of
Business and Economics Alumni Advisory Board.
Love is a 1986 graduate of the College of Charleston where he earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Love serves as a manager in the Charleston
office of Gamble Givens & Moody, P.A.
Helen
Murphy has joined Westvaco as senior vice president and chief financial
officer. She joins Westvaco from
PolyGram Holding, Inc., where she concluded a nine-year tenure and served as
CFO since 1997.
Josh
Zollweg has joined Kiawah Island Resort as corporate golf sales
manager. Zollweg has two-and-a-half
years of experience in the field. His
new duties will include catering to large groups of 60 people or more,
preparing accommodations, making tee time arrangements and dining reservations,
arranging meeting facilities and organizing trips into Charleston.
Misty
Smith has joined the professional staff of the South Carolina agency of
Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. as an insurance and investment service
specialist. Smith, a native of
Orangeburg, recently graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in
Communication. Jack Hibbits, Jr. has joined the agency
as an insurance and investment services specialist. Hibbits recently graduated with honors from Presbyterian College
with a degree in History.
Richard
Ryan of Coastal Roofing Co., Inc., in Charleston has been elected to the
Carolinas Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association board. Ryan will serve as Secretary/Treasurer for
the 1999 year.
The Better Business Bureau of
Charleston and Columbia has selected Paul
Heinauer to its executive committee.
Heinauer is the president and owner of Glasspro, and has been on the
Better Business Bureau board for two years.
Burnet
R. Maybank III, former director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue
and Taxation, has joined Nexsen Pruet Jacobs Pollard and Robinson, LLP as
special counsel in the law firms Charleston office. He will concentrate on economic development, local and state tax
issues and administrative law. Maybank
served as the first director of the Department of Revenue and Taxation and also
as Deputy Securities Commissioner and General Counsel in the Secretary of
States Office; a commissioner on the South Carolina Public Service Commission;
and a member of the board of DHEC. He
served for three years as chairman of the Enterprise Zone Committee of the
Coordinating Council for Economic Development.
Renee
Cammer has been named sales manager for John Q. Hammons newest property,
the Embassy Suites Charleston Convention Center, located within the convention
center complex in North Charleston. Her
responsibilities will include sales and marketing for the hotel handling the
regional association market. She brings
six years of sales and catering experience to her new position, and previously
was sales manager for the Hilton Charleston North.
Doug
Dougherty has been promoted to senior account executive with Atlantic
Publication Group. Dougherty has been
an account executive with APG for two years, and was previously associated with
The Post and Courier and the Clemson
University Publications and Graphics Department.
Tim
Hussey has announced the formation of Hussey design, a full-service graphic
design firm located in downtown Charleston.
Hussey recently relocated from New York City where he handled design
projects for clients including MTV, Rolling
Stone, Sony Music, ABC, VH-1 and GQ magazine. On a local level, he was a designer with Rawle Murdy Associates
in 1995 where he worked on accounts such as Kiawah Island, the Charleston
Regional Development Alliance and the South Carolina Aquarium.
