Travis Moore of Edward Jones in North Charleston has received the professional designation of Accredited Asset Management Specialist after completing an educational program with Denver-based College for Financial Planning.

 

Karen Nugent, volunteer coordinator for Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, was awarded the 2008 Volunteer Administrator for the Year Award by the Lowcountry chapter of the South Carolina Association for Volunteer Administration. The annual award honors a volunteer administrator who demonstrates exemplary service to his or her community, the profession of volunteer administration and his or her agency.

 

Stantec has been named one of the top 10 fastest-growing architecture, engineering and environmental consulting firms in the country by research firm ZweigWhite Information Services and appears in the firm’s 2007 “Hot Firm” list. Stantec, which acquired Trico Engineering earlier this year, was listed at No. 50 in 2006 and at No. 9 in 2007. The list also named the company as one of the nation’s top three engineering and architecture firms. The Hot Firm list is based on on gross revenue for both fiscal year 2003 and fiscal year 2006, as verified by financial statements or income tax returns reviewed by third parties.

Scott Baskin has been chosen by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors as a recipient of the South Carolina Certified Commercial Investment Member Scholarship. The annual scholarship is offered to highly qualified, full-time real estate agents to help them achieve their CCIM designation.

 

Choate Construction Co. of Charleston received an Eagle Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas at the annual “Excellence in Construction” awards program for their construction of the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing & Technology in Florence.

 

Ross Printing was named Small Business of the Month by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.

 

FastTracSC, an entrepreneurial training program promoting entrepreneurship and small business in South Carolina, celebrated its 500th participant on Nov. 27. FastTracSC is a coalition whose members represent the best of entrepreneurial resources in the state by using the FastTrac programs created by the Kauffman Foundation.

 

Kenneth D. Tew has been designated a Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his contributions to the field of cancer drug discovery and development. Tew was one of two South Carolina researchers to receive the honor. Tew is the chairman of the Department of Cell and Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at the Medical University of South Carolina.

 

Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area Inc. received a $40,000 competitive grant from Children’s Trust Fund of South Carolina. The organization won the grant for its efforts at Fort Johnson and James Island middle schools to provide support for children who have transferred to the schools because of “No Child Left Behind” legislation. 

 

Dr. Barry L. Weissglass has received two stars from the United Health Premium designation program for meeting or exceeding the quality and efficiency of care criteria as a physician.

 

The Muhler Co. has been named a 2007 Dealer of the Year by Window & Door magazine. The annual awards handed out by the window industry trade publication honor two companies as the top Overall Excellence winners, as well as seven others for marketing, installation, customer service, retail/showroom program, technology, innovative thinking and community service.

 

Philip M. Scriven, director of the Counselor Education Program at S.C. State University, has received the inaugural Outstanding Counselor Educator Award at the 24th annual convention of the S.C. School Counselor Association. The new award recognizes Scriven’s significant contributions to the professional development of colleagues, the outstanding leadership that he provides to the counselor education program and his mentoring of students.

 

Chris Fraser, Grubb&Ellis|Barkley Fraser CCIM, has been appointed to the President’s Council of Grubb & Ellis Co. Fraser’s receipt of the designation signifies his strong commitment to service, excellence, personal and professional development and dedication to the future growth of Grubb & Ellis.

 

Charleston Trident Home Builders Association has honored Dolphin Architects & Builders for the company’s outstanding contributions to new houses built in the Charleston area. The association judges such structures on their architectural design and outstanding craftsmanship. Dolphin received the highest-level gold award for its house on Kiawah Island in the category of $2 million and over and a silver award in the $1 million to $1.5 million category for a home in I’On.

 

Bill Linde, a substance abuse counselor with Palmetto Behavioral Health, was named the 2007 Counselor of the Year by the S.C. Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. The annual award recognizes a long-term counselor for being both a positive role model and influence to his or her clients. Linde is a nominee for the 2008 National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors’ Laura Roe Counselor of the Year Award.

 

Paul Cantrell, energy manager at The Citadel, has been named 2007 South Carolina Energy Manager of the Year by the Association of South Carolina Energy Managers. The award recognizes the outstanding work of a professional individual in the field of energy management, acknowledging both individual achievements in efficient-energy practices and the innovative use of energy-saving technologies in the workplace.

 

Joyce King of Disher Hamrick & Myers has been awarded the Accredited Buyer Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council Inc. of the National Association of Realtors. King is one of more than 32,000 real estate professionals in North America who have earned the designation.

 

Duke R. Highfield, a partner in the Charleston law firm Young Clement Rivers, has been elected to the board of directors of Alfa International, a global network of independent law firms.

The BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival and Charleston magazine have selected a submission by Jason Fletcher as the official 2008 festival poster. Fletcher is a graphic artist at The Post and Courier.

 

Blackbaud Inc. CEO Marc Chardon has been appointed to the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s Industry Advisory Council for a three-year term starting in 2008. The education council supports educational institutions and advancement professionals who serve them through their work in alumni relations, communications, marketing and development. The Industry Advisory Council was formed in 2003 to provide the education council with executive advice on opportunities to expand its relationship with educational partners within the advancement industry.

 

Rawle Murdy was awarded two Adrian Awards for outstanding public relations and advertising campaigns for the re-launch of Charleston Place Hotel’s award-winning restaurant, Charleston Grill. The firm was honored with the silver award for its public relations campaign and the bronze award for its advertising campaign. 

 

Robb Report, a national luxury magazine, has named Charleston Grill one of its top 71 recommended fine dining picks for extravagant and tasty cuisine. Charleston Grill is the only restaurant in South Carolina to receive the honor.

 

Michelle Poirier, owner of Karst Inc., has been inducted as a 2007-2008 Honorary Commander for the Charleston Air Force Base. Poirier has been assigned to the 1st Combat Camera Squadron, the main source of imagery of the U.S. Air Force and Army during combat and peacetime operations.
