Bethany Buckles joined The Real Buyer’s Agent in Charleston. She is a former school teacher.

William B. Ellison joined Colliers Keenan in Charleston as a commercial real estate broker specializing in land sales. Previously, he worked for the policy director of the Society of American Foresters in Washington, D.C.

Kathie Faretra joined Dunes Properties. Faretra will focus on the Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes communities.

Amy Papp has joined Stephen Russell & Associates Ltd. as an intern architect. She was previously employed by MG Architects.

Whitney Grove joined LS3P Associates Ltd. as a senior designer for the Image Studio. She has nearly 10 years experience as an interior designer.

Dolphin Architects and Builders hired Gene Sides as a designer/associate AIA. Prior to joining Dolphin, Sides was the senior project manager at Glick/Boehm & Associates Inc.

Amy M. Hamrick joined Mount Pleasant-based SGM Architects Inc. as an interior designer. Formerly, Hamrick worked in Chicago. Paul R. “Tripp” Massengil III joined the company as an intern architect. Massengil previously worked with firms in Greenville, Clemson and North Charleston.

HLA Inc., a civil engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, and land planning firm, hired Brad Smith as senior civil engineer/project manager. Smith has more than 10 years of experience.

Heartwell Mortgage Corp. hired Geri Boneske as a loan officer for the organization’s Charleston branch. Boneske is responsible for loan origination in the retail sales department.

Franklin Funding hired David Heilman as a business development specialist and Al Molony as a loan officer. Previously, Heilman worked in health care services. Molony worked in loans for more than 29 years.

Brantley Moody was promoted to senior vice president of business banking at Bank of America. He has been with the bank for 11 years.

Atlantic Marina Holdings, a local acquisition operation, has hired Thomas Otis as senior vice president, chiefs operating officer; Dunston Powell as senior vice president, acquisitions and sales; and Ginger Powers as marketing manager. Otis worked for Morgan Stanley, Smith Barney and Colliers Keenan. Powell has successfully brokered real estate transactions totaling more than $50 million in value during the past 10 years, including retail, office, industrial, investment, waterfront, and marina properties. Powers worked for Arnold Palmer’s Design Co. and Power’s Design Architects has director of marketing.

Ameris Bank hired William Achurch as vice president and business banker in Charleston.

Local chef Chad Glasscock opened The Island Chef, a personal chef service.

Sam Mustafa opened Tropical Toast, a restaurant featuring Caribbean cuisine, at 155 Meeting St.

Christy Schachte opened MoM at the Village Pointe Shopping Center. MoM is committed to nurturing women during the pre-conception stages by offering the latest in fertility massage.

Stacey Quinn Williams opened Quinn Williams Design, a full-service interior design business at 654 Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant.

Three new stores have opened in Freshfields Village on Johns Island: Nicolas and Maria Prouvost opened Lucas, an upscale children’s clothing and toy store; Nancy and Louis Gurley opened The Lollipop Shop, which features more than 400 varieties of candy; and Loren Beadle opened Coastal Palms – Island Apparel, offering relaxed resort apparel for men, women, and children.

Jennifer Burton has been hired as the new lifestyle director for Del Webb Charleston. Burton will be responsible for developing fitness programs, chartered clubs, travel opportunities and other social events for the new retirement community.

Kaliburn, a manufacturer of plasma cutting systems, named Brian E. O’Hara as vice president of sales and marketing and hired Allan H. Holst as business development director.

McAngus Goudelock & Courie LLC hired P. Gunnar Nistad as a member of its Charleston office. Nistad practices civil litigation including medical malpractice, legal malpractice, construction defects, commercial disputes, products liability and complex litigation.

Adam E. Barr has been named a partner of Barr Unger & McIntosh LLC.  His area of practice is real estate transactions and litigation. Barr joined the firm as an associate in 1998.

Trio Solutions Inc. hired Brian Cendrowski as vice president of Web services. Cendrowski will be responsible for overseeing all Web development and design projects for Trio Solutions Inc. and its clients. Prior to joining Trio Solutions, Cendrowski was a senior business analyst at Computer Sciences Corp. in Blythewood.

WCSC-TV hired Nicole Johnson to its reporting team. Johnson will be responsible for investigating and assembling daily news stories on a wide array of topics. Before returning to the Lowcountry, Johnson was a news reporter for WALB-TV in Albany, Ga.

Elizabeth McDowell has joined The Bosworth Group, an integrated marketing, advertising and public relations firm, where she will manage communications programs for a number of its clients.

Charleston-based production company Go To Team hired Ryan Cockrell as a high definition video editor. Cockrell will work with clients to craft entertaining and effective finished video products.

Kevin Harrison joined Production Design Associates as creative director. Harrison will serve as chief video editor, oversee video shoots and function as art director in the process of creating graphics, animated text and stylized looks for each project.

Carolina HR Partners hired Penny Heater as manager for the firm’s office on Bowman Road in Mount Pleasant. Prior to joining Carolina HR Partners, Heater was the vice president of client services for ADP in Atlanta.

David M. Gilston Agency Inc. promoted Thomas D. Swayne to president. Swayne joined the David M. Gilston Insurance Agency in 1978 as a sales manager.

The Richard James Galleries hired Nancy O’Neil as the new gallery director.

Medical University of South Carolina Foundation for Research Development hired Ryan N. Fiorini as licensing and technology analyst. He is responsible for assisting the foundation in intellectual property and marketing management.

Miguel A. Pappolla, a leading physician and scientist who has spent several decades researching brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease, has joined the faculty of the Medical University of South Carolina as part of a state-sponsored program geared to boost the state’s output of applied research.  Pappolla has accepted the Josephine Tucker Morse S.C. Centers of Economic Excellence Chair in Neuropathology at MUSC. He has also assumed a tenure track position as professor of neurology in the MUSC’s department of neurosciences.

Belimed Inc. hired four new people: Robert “Bob” Guice as director, quality and regulatory affairs; Pam Palmer as manager, sales administration; Amy Bradley as human resources manager; and Larry Earl as chief financial officer. Guice comes to Belimed with 20 years of quality assurance experience, most recently with Hill-Rom Inc. Palmer was most recently with CarePoint Inc. Bradley has 10 years of experience and was most recently the human resources generalist with Hill-Rom Inc. Earl has 20 years of experience with companies including Arthur Andersen, Hill-Rom and Berchtold Corp.

The Sintra Corp. promoted Doug Davis to director of operations and general manager for Sintra’s new Custom Home Division, Jay Godefroy to director of the Custom Homes Division, Chris Rinauro to project manager over the builder’s newest neighborhood, Daniel’s Orchard, and James Little to field manager and will also work at Daniel’s Orchard.

Beazer Homes hired Cherrie-Ann Caton and Taneka Richardson Walker as staff accountants and Marc Cifuni as a builder to its Charleston staff.

John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts hired Peter Steketee as general manager of the Embassy Suites Hotel Charleston Airport and Convention Center in North Charleston. Throughout his 30 years of hospitality experience, Steketee has received numerous awards and honors, including Embassy Suites Hotel’s 2005 General Manager of the Year.

Liz Hennrikus joined the South Carolina Aquarium as director of institutional advancement. Hennrikus, with more than 11 years experience and a proven track record in development and solicitation strategies for major gifts, will lead the Aquarium’s fundraising, grants, business partnerships, annual fund, endowment and capital campaigns, while working closely with the Aquarium Board, staff, volunteers and donors.

Trident United Way hired Elizabeth Bueno as a provider services coordinator in Trident United Way’s Childcare Resource and Referral.
