Jimmy Hyams has been promoted to branch executive at Southcoast Community Banks Sam Rittenberg Boulevard location. Hyams joined Southcoast Community Bank as a business development officer in December 2006.
First Reliance Bank has hired Kevin Williams as vice president and business banker. In his new role, Williams will be responsible for acquiring and developing new and existing business opportunities including real estate and equipment purchases, debt restructuring and working capital funding.
Colonial Trust Co. has opened an office in downtown Charleston and hired David C. Humphreys Jr. as senior vice president and general counsel and Karen L. Parkinson as trust operations manager.
Carolina First has promoted Roper Jenkins to vice president. Jenkins joined the bank in February 2007 and is a commercial relationship manager.
Melissa McCants has been promoted to director of special events for the Charleston RiverDogs. Previously, McCants served as the RiverDogs assistant director of special events. The organization has also added four new employees to its front office staff including Lavon Alls as director of community relations; Michael Petrini, sales manager; Will Lindsay, food and beverage director; and Michael DeNicola, assistant food and beverage director
Carolina Kitchens has hired Jennifer Smith and Lara Brinkmeyer as kitchen designers. They will handle all aspects of kitchen design including remodeling projects as well as new construction.
Wellspring Fitness and Massage has hired Erin Hall as a licensed massage therapist.
Mattress Firm has promoted Jason Tenney as area manager for the Charleston market. Tenney joined Mattress firm in the Kansas City market in 2003. Later, he became store manager for several locations and performed the duties of market trainer and customer service representative.
Janet Souders has joined the staff of Charleston-based Greenery Gallery Inc. Souders has many years of retail experience and has been trained as a professional tropical plant technician.
The Greenery has hired Erik Brown as a maintenance supervisor. Brown will supervise landscape maintenance accounts in the Mount Pleasant area. Brown previously owned Southern Turf and Ornamental LLC and has more than 15 years of experience in landscape management.
The Lettered Olive has hired Alison Morse to its sales and marketing staff as the director of national sales and marketing. Morse has extensive marketing, sales and event coordination experience. Most recently, she supported the marketing efforts of Boston Common magazine.
Kate Darby has joined J. Henry Stuhr Inc. as the director of administration. Darby is the former general manager of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and, most recently, was the director of development for the South Carolina Aquarium.
Lynn Henderson has founded One Unity Source Yoga and serves as its director.
Southland Landscape Corp. has promoted Brian Pottieger to vice president of business development. His duties will include overseeing sales and marketing and helping the company continue its growth into new markets.
Dr. Gail L. Rearden has been hired as a member of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare medical staff and is practicing internal and geriatric medicine at Roper St. Francis Medical Care in North Charleston.
Susan M. Ivey has joined Carolina Center for Occupational Health as the director of marketing and technical services. Ivey has more than 18 years of experience in industrial hygiene, safety and occupational medicine and is assisting industrial clients with safety and exposure assessments to reduce potential accidents and injuries.
Rachel Francis has been hired as a member of the outpatient program at Palmetto Behavioral Health while Rhonda Faughender and Ione Sack have joined as adult clinical program directors. Francis, who specializes in treating substance-related disorders, facilitates the agencys evening recovery program; Faughender serves as the clinical supervisor for adult psychiatric and substance abuse services and most recently served as supervisor of adult health programming at Dorchester Mental Health. Sack provides clinical supervision and training to staff, counselors and technicians in the adult services program. Prior to joining Palmetto Behavioral Health, she served as supervisor for Managed Treatment Services. Keri Driggers provides individual and group therapy in the agencys outpatient program. She joined Palmetto Behavioral Health in 2000 as a child and adolescent therapist and has since served in other roles.
Dr. Steven Busby has opened Johns Island Family Practice on Maybank Highway. Busbys work experience includes the Crisis Ministries Medical Clinic and medical mission trips to Ecuador and Venezuela.
Dr. Taryn Stelter has joined Plantation Pediatrics in West Ashley.
Denise Thompson has joined Glasspro as an internal sales representative. Prior to joining Glasspro, Thompson held various administrative positions.

Grand Ideas Inc. has hired Jonsie Evans as event marketing director. Prior to joining the team at Grand Ideas, Evans worked for more than six years at the Charlotte, N.C.-based communications firm Corder Philips.

Jennifer Newbold has accepted the position of the new development and special events coordinator at Pinewood Preparatory School. Newbold was previously employed by Dixon Hughes PLLC. Pinewood Preparatory School also has hired four additional teachers for the school year: Karen Aebischer, Sarah Coyne, Michael Sigalas and Charmaine Wozniak.
Aebischer has become Pinewoods lower school music teacher. Coyne is a second-grade teacher. Sigalas is a high school English teacher. Wozniak is a new public speaking teacher.
University School of the Lowcountry has announced its faculty for 2007-2008: Rhonda Ewing, middle school science; Donna Logan, middle school humanities; Jason Kreutner, head of school and leadership and life skills teacher; Ann Glenn Rowland, middle school Spanish; and W. Gregg Longanecker, middle school math.
