Southern Tank Transport Inc. was awarded five first place awards by the South Carolina Trucking Association. Southern Tank Transport, with terminals in Holly Hill and eight terminals nationwide, was awarded first place in General Commodities Combined, General Commodities Intercity, Tank Operations Local, Tank Operations Intercity and an Industrial Safety Award for Tank Operations.
Trio Solutions Inc., a Charleston-based marketing firm founded in 2001, moved its corporate headquarters to the Belle Hall Executive Offices off of Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant.
Stan Parker, dean of the evening college at Charleston Southern University, was elected chair of the S.C. Independent College and Universities Evening College/Adult Education/Distance Education Consortia. There are 20 independent colleges and universities in the consortium enrolling more than 32,000 students each year and offers a wide variety of traditional degree programs, as well as accelerated and evening college programs for adult students.
Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough honored Whitney Horn of Charleston with a 2006 E.W. Mullins Sr. Paralegal Pro Bono Award for her commitment to pro bono service. The awards are named for Ed Mullins Sr., a founding partner at Nelson Mullins, and honor paralegals who exemplify the firms commitment to pro bono service.
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, located on Johns Island, moved its new operations center to the renovated former home of Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 2545 Bohicket Road on Johns Island. The facility was named the Gene Yost Memorial Center in honor of Yosts many contributions to the housing ministry as a board member. The building includes a 2,470-square-foot main office, an 855-square-foot conference facility and the Habitat Chapel, which has been restored and will be used by Sea Island Habitat for volunteer orientations and special ecumenical events.
Local Charleston caterer Jimmy Hagood was a guest on the Memorial Day edition of Nation Public Radios "Talk of the Nation." Lisa Grace Lednicer and Dan Huntley joined Hagood; the three co-wrote Extreme Barbecue: Smokin Rigs and Real Good Recipes.
Travel + Leisure magazines Worlds Best Service Awards ranked Woodlands Resort & Inn No. 2 for service in the Continental United States and Canada.
The following home inspectors completed a two-day educational conference in Columbia: Bill Jacques of American Inspection Services Inc.; James Hodges of Hodges Construction; Kevin Westendorff, Lewis White and Paul Vaughn of Lowcountry Home Inspection Inc.; Martin Baker Sr. and Martin Baker Jr. of Archispec Building Inspectors; Stephen Houmard of Solid Ground Home Inspections LLC. Sponsored by the S.C. chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors and the S.C. Association of Home Inspectors, the conference featured 16 hours of instruction on legal issues, new home inspections and significant changes in the 2006 version of the International Residential Code.

Tali Vereen of Dixon Hughes PLLC was awarded the 2007 Laura Skatell New Member Award for outstanding and unselfish service to the community. She received the award based on her work through the Junior Service League of Charleston and personal initiative to enrich the Charleston area.
Matt Carter of Encore Technology and Design was certified by the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association as a Registered Outreach Instructor. The certification enables Carter to present CEDIA-developed home technology courses to architects, interior designers, builders and members of their industry associations.
The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation named Michael Bedenbaugh, a local preservationist, as its new executive director. Bedenbaugh aims to bring The Palmetto Trust to the forefront of state historic restoration and preservation through further educational programs, the Trusts Revolving Fund and legislative initiatives.
