The BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival and Charleston magazine announced Justin Harris, a graphic designer at Rawle Murdy Associates, has won the 2007 Charleston Food + Wine Poster Design Contest. Harris will receive a check for $1,000, have his design featured in connection with the festival and receive recognition in the December Food + Wine issue of Charleston magazine.

The S.C. World Trade Center honored Peter O. Lehman, director of planning and business development at the S.C. State Ports Authority, with its Outstanding Leadership Award to recognize Lehman’s significant contributions to the organization. He served as its executive director from 1992 until 1997 and then served on its board of directors until 2006.

The S.C. Chiropractic Association inducted Dr. Edward LaRue Sessions into its hall of fame. Sessions is also a Berkeley County magistrate.

Walker Coleman, of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, will serve as Charleston’s sole representative on the board of trustees of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid-Atlantic Chapter. The chapter, which serves all of South Carolina and 33 counties of North Carolina, is based in Charlotte and recently announced its 2006-2007 board.

“Hair Trends and Advanced Waxing,” a new cosmetology course offered at Trident Technical College, won the Outstanding Cooperative Continuing Education Program Award from the S.C. Association of Higher Continuing Education.

Liollio Architecture’s Cherie Liollio and Geoff Mohney have obtained the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED program was created by the council to encourage the development of energy efficient, environmentally friendly, sustainable buildings.

Coastal Empire Exteriors was named one of the top 100 contractors in the United States by Replacement Contractors magazine for the third year in a row. Replacement Contractor recognizes companies in the building industry each year by publishing a ranking of leading U.S. companies engaged in the replacement of roofing, siding, windows, decks and ancillary lines.

Adrianna Hicks, a student in Trident Technical College’s cosmetology program, won first place in the student division of the fantasy hair competition, held during the Beauty and Health Expo Weekend 2006 and sponsored by hair etc. magazine.

Summerville’s Ashley Hogan, 11, received the Girl Scouts of the USA Medal of Honor Lifesaving Award for saving the life of her mother, Johnnie Pirkel, who was in respiratory distress. The Lifesaving Award has been part of the Girl Scouts program since the beginning of the movement in the United States. The award recognizes Girl Scouts who have saved or attempted to save a human life under circumstances that indicate heroism with risk to their own lives.

Charleston-based Planning the Globe was nominated for two Gala Awards by Special Events magazine. The company’s “Mission Possible” event was selected from 389 entries for inclusion in the semifinals. Planning the Globe was nominated in two categories: Best Achievement in Technical Support and Best Event Entertainment Concept and Execution. The Gala Awards were founded in 1986 and recognize work in special events worldwide.

Ben Marino and Stan Gibson have been named to the College of Charleston Foundation Board. Since 1995, Marino has been president of BTM Investment Company, managing investments in private companies and real estate, including the Carolina Park Project in Mount Pleasant. He is currently on the board of visitors at the Medical University of South Carolina and is the chairman of the College of Charleston’s School of the Arts fundraising committee.

The Three Lions Club at Blackbaud Stadium has been nominated by US Soccer magazine as a finalist for its annual “Best Of” awards in the Best Soccer Bar category. The Three Lions Club is one of 10 soccer bars nominated. The Best Soccer Bar designation will be awarded to the best soccer-focused or soccer-friendly bar in the United States.

Moncks Corner attorney and former Circuit Judge of the Equity Court John B. “Jack” Williams was recently re-elected as a representative of the 9th Judicial Circuit to the S.C. Bar House of Delegates, which establishes policy for the legal profession in South Carolina.
