Golf tournament raises money for elementary school
More than 100 participants in the Second Annual Calling All Angels Golf Tournament, hosted by Kiawah Islands Osprey Point Golf Course, raised more than $20,000 for educational and enrichment materials for children attending Angel Oak Elementary School on Johns Island. Retiree spends golden years volunteering for Habitat
After 37 years with Procter and Gamble, Donald R. Carey, pictured, moved from New Hampshire to Summerville. He immediately began volunteering at the Dorchester Habitat Homestore. Lately, his primary job has been fixing up the side yard that is home to the donated siding, trim, windows and doors in the store. Carey volunteers between 25-30 hours per week.
Alcoa Mt. Holly donates funds to middle school
Students at Sedgefield Middle School in Goose Creek are the beneficiaries of new funds and mentors supplied by Alcoa Mt. Holly. A group of employees from numerous plant departments came together to present Principal Don Brown with a check for $5,500 earmarked for needed books, teaching materials and student supplies. Oprah awards Angel Network grant to Center for Women
The Center for Women, which provides counseling, support group services and educational programs to Lowcountry women, was the recipient of a $25,000 grant from Oprahs Angel Network. The Oprahs Angel Network Award was presented at O, The Oprah Magazines Live Your Best Life: An Afternoon with Oprah Winfrey, an interactive event held at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. Man has wish to fly fulfilled
Heartland Hospice, with the help of Tina Morris, Jessica Stine, Kip Pratt, Mike Gibbons and an anonymous local pilot, recently fulfilled the wish of Jack Evans, who suffers from debilitating pain and a life-limiting illness, to have a flight in a Cessna 310.
