The Association of American Colleges and Universities recently named College of Charleston President Leo I. Higdon Jr. to its board of directors. The AAC&U is the leading national association concerned with the quality, vitality and public standing of undergraduate liberal education.
The South Carolina Aviation Association announced its 2006 officers and board of directors. Ken Holt, principal associate, The LPA Group, was elected president; Frank Manning, general counsel, Columbia Metropolitan Airport, was elected vice president; and Rick Hegenberger, private pilot and business owner, was elected secretary/treasurer. Board members include: Ray Butters, chairman, Lee County Airport Commission; Bud Coward, pilot, Savannah River Site in Aiken; John Ferguson, airport manager, Anderson County Airport; Larry Holcombe, assistant airport director, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport; Jennie Miler, business woman; G. Eugene Musselwhite, airport administrator, Rock Hill-York County Airport; Hugh Oldham, president, Proairshow LLC; Rosylin Weston, public relations director, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport; and Gary Varga, vice president, WK Dickson & Co. Inc.
Paula Cates has joined the Rein & Shine board of directors as the volunteer liaison. She has been an active volunteer with Rein & Shine for more than three years.
Stan Lacy, founding partner of the Collins & Lacy law firm, has earned certification in legal mediation and will be mediating workers compensation cases statewide.

Sally Hitchcock, legal assistant at Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor LLC, has been appointed president-elect of the Hilton Head Legal Staff Professionals, a chapter of the South Carolina Legal Staff Professionals and part of the National Association of Legal Professionals. Hitchcock, based in the firms Bluffton office, has more than 20 years of experience in the legal field.
Hospice of Charleston Inc. has announced the selection of Executive Director Catherine Cosgrove to a 3-year board of directors term with The Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care. She previously served as director of operations and associate director with Mountain Area Hospice in Asheville, N.C., for 18 years.
David P. Kent, co-owner and broker-in-charge of The Real Buyers Agent, Home Buyers Choice real estate company, is the president-elect of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors for 2006.
