Josh Caplea and Lynden Garland of Liollio Architecture have received LEED Accredited Professional status. Both obtained this recognition upon their successful completion of the required examination. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program was created by the U.S. Green Building Council to encourage the development of energy efficient, environmentally friendly, sustainable buildings.

Anchor is the 151st office in a worldwide alliance coordinated by CORFAC International, an organization of leading, privately-held entrepreneurial commercial real estate firms.

Andra L. Watkins, owner of Positus Consulting LLC, was featured in the leading national publication on law office management, Law Office Administrator. Her contribution, entitled Paving the Way for a Better Ending, was included in the January 2006 issue and outlined various ways law office administrators could prepare to move on to other positions.
Mount Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman served as the honorary chair for the Mayors Leadership Breakfast hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid-Atlantic Chapter. The breakfast serves as a meeting place for local business leaders throughout the Charleston area that have an interest in employee volunteerism, community building and team building. Hallman was also the featured speaker at the Mount Pleasant Business and Professional Associations first meeting of the year. He gave his State of the Town address for 2006.
The South Carolina Department of Revenue was named a 2005 Enterprise All-Star award winner for serving as the lead project developer for South Carolina Business One-Stop, a comprehensive Web site that allows South Carolina business owners to register and obtain permits and licensing, as well as file and pay taxes. The 50 Enterprise All-Star award winners were recognized for having the most groundbreaking network projects in the United States and beyond. Winners were featured in a special issue of Network World magazine.
Apex Carpet Care LLC has been certified in carpet cleaning and water damage restoration by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. There are three Charleston-area firms certified by this governing body in both skills.
HDRs Robert F. Clair has been named one of Engineering News-Record magazines Top 25 Newsmakers for 2005. Each year, ENR recognizes 25 industry leaders for their innovations and achievements. Clair was honored for his management of the Cooper River Bridge Replacement Project as director of engineering for special projects for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The $632 million Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Americas and the largest infrastructure project in South Carolina history, was completed on budget in four years under Clairs direction.
Marina Dock Age Magazine has named the Charleston City Marina the 2005 Marina of the Year. This national award is bestowed upon one marina annually that excels in best management practices, exhibits strong growth and development, achieves high levels of customer satisfaction and service, is a strong environmental steward and successfully markets and promotes the marina and related services to its customers.
Dana Tait Sandlin and Wescoat Sandlin of Advanced Solutions Dispute Resolution Services LLC were hired as mediation consultants for the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the rebuilding efforts in the wake of hurricane Katrina. Both will mediate conflicts among federal employees and government contractors, as well as train and design conflict management systems for the federal government.
Planning the Globes Veronica Walsh, owner and president, David Felix, director of creative and events, and Jennifer Smith, director of meetings, were nominated for recognition in Convention South magazine by their peers in the hospitality industry. Nominees display an attitude of professionalism, excellence, preparedness and creativity. This is the third nomination for both Felix and Smith. The December/January issue of the magazine features all three nominations.
Custom homebuilder Simonini Builders Inc., based in Charlotte, N.C. with divisions in Charleston and Bluffton, was named Builder of the Year 2006 at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., during the International Builders Show. Accepting the award on behalf of Simonini Builders were co-owners Alan Simonini and Ray Killian Jr. Since 1966, the Builder of the Year award is presented annually by Professional Builder magazine.

McElwaine, a partner with Nelson Mullins, was named as one of the leading practitioners in his field according to Whos Who Legal: USATrademarks 2006, the International Whos Who of Business Law. McElwaine has more than 10 years of experience in the fields of intellectual property litigation and strategic counseling.
The South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations awarded a two-year contract to Joan K. Ustin & Associates to facilitate a major new initiative, Preserving the Public Trust, that is designed to improve accountability while strengthening public support for the nonprofit community. The goal of the project is to develop, promote and support the implementation of a set of guiding principles and best practices for nonprofits.
B.P. Barber & Associates Inc. will celebrate its 90th year in business during 2006. During that time, BPB has grown from a single office in Columbia to six offices in three states and more than 180 employees. In 2005, BPB was recognized as one of the top 500 design firms in the county by Engineering News-Record.
Several individuals were recently given a Three Sisters Award in recognition of their efforts to preserve historical Charleston. Those honored were Henry L. Holliday III, Kathleen Summerall, Elizabeth de Rosset Maybank Guérard, Charles J. Smith, Nancy Hawk, Keith Kirkland, Anne Fairfax, Richard Sammons, Sandra Campbell, Andrew Birlant Slotin of the George Birlant & Co. and the Save Charleston Foundation and its members.
The following businesses received the prestigious Torch Awards at the Better Business Bureaus annual awards ceremony: El Chicos Restaurant, Bihari D. Intwala, owner; Southland Equipment Service Inc., Diane Poston; Smith Printing Co., Jerry Smith; and The Specialminds Foundation, Mark Shelley. Torch Awards are given to businesses that exhibit a high degree of ethics and integrity with its customers, as well as its employees. The nominations are submitted by companies and individuals that have witnessed the practices of the business.
