Mary Garcia, senior vice president and senior commercial lender at Community First Bank, has been appointed to the board of Roper St. Francis Hospital.

Yvonne Barnes of Pineville has been appointed by Gov. Mark Sanford to serve on the Area Commission of Trident Technical College. Barnes will represent Berkeley County on the college’s nine-member governing board.

Liberty Fellowship announced the South Carolina leaders who will serve as mentors for the 2007 Charleston fellows. Darla Moore, one of Forbes’ Top 50 Most Powerful Women in American Business, will mentor Anne Kulze, a physician with Just Wellness. Paula Harper Bethea, director of external relations for the McNair Law Firm, will mentor  Toya Green, a partner with the law firm of Hampton Green LLC. Gayle Averyt, a 1998 inductee of the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame, will mentor David Agnew, founder and president of Civic Square LLC. Luther Fredrick Carter, who was appointed by President Bush in 2001 to the Presidential Commission on White House Fellowships, will mentor Dwayne Green, a partner with the law firm of Hampton Green LLC.

Haidee Stith, executive director of the South Carolina Women’s Business Center, has been elected to the board of directors for the Association of Women’s Business Centers. The AWBC is a national nonprofit organization representing women’s business centers and women business owners.

William A. Finn has begun service on Santee Cooper’s board of directors, following his appointment by Gov. Mark Sanford and subsequent confirmation by the S.C. Senate.

The American Society of Landscape Architects inducted Steven D. Livingston, of the city of Charleston Department of Parks, along with 30 other landscape architects to its Council of Fellows, a designation that acknowledges extraordinary work, leadership, knowledge and service to the landscape architecture profession over a sustained period of time.

Wilbur E. Johnson of Young Clement Rivers LLP was admitted to membership in the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel. The federation is an international organization founded in 1936 to further the principles of knowledge, justice and fellowship.

Duval Acker of Kitchens By Design Inc. in Mount Pleasant was selected as one of four judges for Southern Accents magazine’s annual Interior Design Contest.

Wild Dunes Resort’s director of lodging Michael Long earned his Certified Manager of Community Associations credentials through the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers. CMCA certification signifies that a manager has passed NBC-CAM’s national exam and met the requirements for managing condominium, cooperative and homeowners associations.

Dyson Scott has been named the division manager of Mashburn Construction Co. Inc.’s Charleston office. Scott was previously a principal at Medical Development Services, a health care management consultant.

Jan Grossman has been selected by the Suicide Prevention Resource Center to train more than 1,300 mental-health professionals in the United States Air Force. As a national instructor with the SPRC, Grossman will travel to several bases across the country, including the Charleston Air Force Base.

Wild Dunes Resort appointed Manuel DeMoya as director of food and beverage. DeMoya has more than 10 years of experience in the food and beverage industry.

Ivan V. Anderson Jr., president and CEO of Evening Post Publishing Co., was elected as president of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. Anderson succeeds Victor H. Hanson III, president and publisher of the Birmingham (Ala.) News.

Summerville-based Reads Moving Systems of Carolina was one of 30 agents awarded by Atlas Van Lines with its World-Class Commitment Award at the company’s 59th annual convention.

Mount Pleasant’s D.J. Trahan won his first PGA Tour tournament at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic in Mississippi in October. The former Clemson All-American is currently 76th on the PGA Tour money list with 2006 earnings of $1,014,242. Trahan is in his second season on the PGA Tour.

Bosch Co., a global manufacturer of automotive and industrial technology, consumer goods and building technology, won the South Carolina World Trade Center’s 2006 World Trader of the Year Award. Bosch also develops long-term partnerships between S.C. schools, colleges, industries, businesses and government agencies that can develop and implement strategies to ensure strong economic development for the state of South Carolina through targeted academic and skill-training programs.

The Web Marketing Association recognized Rawle Murdy with two 2006 WebAward “Standard of Excellence” awards for real estate. The Web sites for Seabrook Island, www.discoverseabrook.com, and Reverie on the Ashley, www.reverieontheashley.com, were honored for design excellence.

Steve Coe of Rosenblum Coe Architects obtained the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design professional designation by passing the U.S. Green Building Council’s accreditation exam. The LEED rating system is the national benchmark for high performance “green” buildings.

Cordavi Restaurant was named among the 20 best new restaurants in America for 2006 by Esquire magazine.

George J. F. Bullwinkel III, an attorney in Nexsen Pruet’s Charleston office, has been named to the board of Charleston County Conservation Bank. Bullwinkel was selected for a seat reserved for an attorney practicing in the real estate field.

Timothy M. Winkler Sr., CEO and principal of Mount Pleasant-based Winkler Consulting Group, has been selected as a presenter at the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ regional conference. SCANPO’s mission is to serve, support and strengthen nonprofit organizations in South Carolina.

Gregory M. Ensign has been awarded the Transnational Referral Certified professional mark from the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations.

Guerry Taylor, vice president and general manager of Zande-Jon Guerry Taylor P.E. Inc., was a featured speaker at the States Organization for Boating Access national conference. Zande-Jon Guerry Taylor is currently conducting a study of coastal boat ramps in Horry, Georgetown, Charleston, Berkley and Beaufort counties. Taylor is the project manager for the study.

Kevin Brookes of Wachovia Mortgage, who currently ranks as the No. 3 mortgage consultant in the nation for Wachovia, has been chosen to be one of the preferred lenders for The Reverie on the Ashley and The Landing on Shem Creek, in addition to his work on the condo developments on Daniel Island which include 254 Seven Farms, 200 River Landing and Pier View.

As a result of a recent election by members of the World Trade Centers Association, Mark Condon, executive director of the S.C. World Trade Center, was voted as a member of the WTCA’s board of directors, beginning in October 2006, for a term of four years.

Pawleys Plantation in Pawleys Island announced director of sales Kay Grant achieved the designation of Certified Meeting Professional. Requirements for certification are based on an individual’s professional experience and an academic examination.

Tony Pope State Farm Insurance was recognized as the Business of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2006 by the Quarterly Business Breakfast, sponsored by Summerville Medical Center. Sharon Laney was presented the Ambassador of the Quarter award. Ambassadors are dedicated members of the Greater Summerville Chamber of Commerce who volunteer their time to serve as liaisons between the staff and the membership.

Jim Berry and Kim Hinshaw of Anchor Commercial/CORFAC earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation, which recognizes experts in commercial and investment real estate.

Charleston magazine won two Ozzie awards, presented annually by Folio magazine for excellence in magazine publishing. The magazine won silver for “Best Feature Design” and bronze for “Best Use of Typography.”

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada announced that the North Charleston Sewer District received the Distinguished Budget Presentation. The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
