Charles F. Castner, special counsel for Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, was appointed to serve as legal counsel for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce for the 2006-2007 fiscal year.

The education foundation of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce announced its board of directors and executive committee for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. The executive committee members include: Chris Fraser, Grubb & Ellis | Barkley Fraser; Brad Davis, Rick Hendrick Imports; Rob Kerr, Hagood & Kerr PA; Doug Earnst, The GEL Group; Joan Ustin, Joan K. Ustin & Associates; Mandy Denaux, South Carolina Aquarium; Anita Zucker, The InterTech Group Inc.; and Allen Wutzdorff, executive director of the Education Foundation.

John B. Hardaway III, a member of Charleston law firm Nexsen Pruet, was voted chairman-elect of the United States section of an international group of patent and trademark attorneys.

David B. McCormack, of Buist Moore Smythe McGee PA, was named a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. This appointment is the highest recognition by one’s colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence.

The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce named Jack Smith, an experienced environmental and regulatory lawyer in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s Charleston office, to serve on its Developers Council Steering Committee.

Glennda Ross has been elected president of the Charleston chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals for the 2006-2007 year.

Charleston Water System’s Board of Commissioners appointed William (Billy) Koopman Jr. , former general manager of the public utility, to serve out the remainder of Howard Burky’s term as chairman.

The BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival announced its board member positions and appointees. New members of the festival’s board of directors include: Louise Ballard, marketing director, Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau; Barry Gleim, community leader; Lou Hammond, president, Lou Hammond & Associates; Frankie Miller, dean, Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College; Tradd Newton, owner, Fleet Landing; and David Simmons, president, Simmons Realty Co.

The American Lung Association-Southeast Region announced its president and new members for its Coastal South Carolina board of directors: Dr. Richard Hernandez, president, dean of Allied Health Sciences at Trident Technical College; Dr. Jill Aiken, Sandlapper Pediatrics; Carlon Mitchell, S.C. Department of Health and Environment Control, District 7; and Dr. John Ramey, National Allergy & Asthma Centers of Charleston.

College of Charleston’s Ijuana Gadsden, office manager for the school’s division of student affairs, was recognized by a concurrent resolution of the South Carolina General Assembly at the behest of Don Belk, a member of the College of Charleston’s board of trustees, and introduced by Rep. Ben Hagood, R-Charleston. The resolution acknowledged Gadsden for her dedication to the students of the College of Charleston, varied contributions to the community and the state and for giving of her time, talent and energy to benefit South Carolina’s youth.

Kevin C. Bower, assistant professor in civil and environmental engineering at The Citadel, has been honored by the American Society for Engineering Education for his activities as the school’s campus representative to the national organization. Bower was named “Most Outstanding Campus Representative” at the annual meeting of the society’s southeastern section.

First Restoration Services, which has South Carolina offices in Columbia and Charleston and North Carolina offices in Charlotte, Wilmington and Greensboro, was named Remodeler of the Year for the South region and the state of North Carolina by the judges of the Chrysalis Award. Criteria for the award are the company’s relationships with its customers and suppliers; its contributions to professionalism in the remodeling industry; and its contributions to the community.
