Fifth Chicks with Checks gathering a success

“Spotlight on Literacy” event draws 500, raises $20,000 for literacy

Duke Endowment funds local children’s advocacy center

The Duke Endowment has awarded The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center a $450,000 grant over three years to help the center provide services to child abuse victims. The center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the impact and incidence of child abuse on the children of the tri-county community. Since its founding by industrialist and philanthropist James B. Duke in 1924, the Duke Endowment has awarded more than $2.1 billion in grants and donations across North and South Carolina.

East Cooper Hospital helps turtles

Continuing a partnership dating back to 2004, East Cooper Hospital has donated an anesthesia machine to the South Carolina Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital. Since 2000, the Sea Turtle Hospital has rehabilitated and released more than 20 sick or injured sea turtles.
