West Ashley-based commercial real estate firm barkleyfraser.com has become an affiliate of Chicago-based national commercial real estate giant Grubb & Ellis.
The affiliation became official June 26.
It will give greater (national) exposure to our clients properties and expand our opportunities to work with companies relocating to the Charleston market, especially from the Southeast, Midwest and along the East Coast, said barkleyfraser.com principal John Chalfie.
Barkleyfraser.com will share Grubb & Ellis technological, marketing, research and national account managing resources. The firm will add its Charleston-area market surveys to Grubb & Ellis quarterly nationwide commercial real estate reports. Meanwhile, Grubb & Ellis will establish a Lowcountry presence.
As a Grubb & Ellis affiliate, barkleyfraser.com will remain independently owned and operated, Chalfie said. The firm will continue its partnerships with South Eastern Real Estate Management, a property management company, and Retail Properties Inc., a retail real estate firm.
Barkleyfraser.com and South Eastern Real Estate Management and Retail Properties Inc. are located at 1483 Tobias Gadsden Boulevard.
Grubb & Ellis launched its affiliate program with local real estate agencies around the country in the late 1990s. The program helps local commercial real estate firms market their listings nationwide while helping Grubb & Ellis gain a toe hold in smaller markets.
The affiliation allows Grubb & Ellis access to a very strong growth market in Charleston, said Patrick Hurley, senior vice president of Grubb & Ellis Affiliates Inc. Were currently in Columbia and Greenville.
As part of its Grubb & Ellis affiliation, barkleyfraser.com is changing its name
to Grubb & Ellis | Barkley Fraser and exchanging its red-and-white logo colors for Grubb & Ellis black-and-yellow corporate colors.
Barkleyfraser.com had been eyeing an affiliation with Grubb & Ellis for years before finally meeting with the company in April, Chalfie said.
Chalfie noted that his company had considered affiliating with Dallas-based The Staubach Co., Newark, N.J.-based Prudential and other national commercial real estate companies, but Grubb & Ellis proved a natural fit.
The affiliation makes it easier for barkleyfraser.com to grow quickly if the West Ashley agency wants to, Chalfie said.
Our company has always been a slow grower, he said.
Begun 15 years ago, barkleyfraser.com has nearly a dozen employees. The firm specializes in office and industrial space.
Founded in 1958, Grubb & Ellis is touted as one of the worlds leading commercial real estate services firms.
