Roaring 20s gala caps Golden Age of Inns first year
The Golden Age of Inns Steering Committee, which was organized to raise awareness of historic Summerville, capped off its first year with a Roaring 20s gala to The Woodlands Resort & Inn in Summerville. The gala raised $3,000, which will be distributed among the Summerville-Dorchester Museum, Summerville Preservation Society and the Timrod Library. Credit union continues computer donations program for nonprofits
South Carolina Federal Credit Union donated 12 computers to the Lowcountry Food Bank in an on-going effort to help area nonprofits focus on their goals without spending donation dollars on new technology. The donation to the food bank was S.C. Federals fourth gift of computers to local nonprofits. Pictured from left are: S.C. Homes for Vets honors Memorial Day by giving away first home
Mark Johnson, a single parent from Boiling Springs, S.C., who served in active and reserve duty with the U.S. Air Force from 1993 to 2003, was the first recipient of a home from newly formed nonprofit Homes for Vets. Homes for Vets was formed by Jeff Willis, a Republican candidate for S.C. State Treasurer. The nonprofit has pledged to build 20 homes over the next four years. The program is open to all South Carolina armed forces veterans and spouses of veterans killed in active service. Pictured from left are Wilson and Willis.
S.C. Housing Trust grant assists first-time homebuyers
The South Carolina Housing Trust Fund has awarded a $274,000 grant to the Lowcountry Housing and Development Foundation Inc. to assist first-time homebuyers with overcoming the gap financing of a new home by helping with the down payment and closing costs. The Housing Trust is a resource to finance affordable rental and home ownership opportunities for South Carolinians with low income. To date, the Lowcountry Housing and Development Foundation has assisted in the financing and building of 25 houses in the tri-county area.
