Custom Development Solutions Inc. hired Paula Chiarmonte as senior campaign director. She previously worked as a managing consultant for Skystone Ryan, an international fundraising consulting company.

The Advanced Technology Institute promoted Kevin Carpentier and James L. House to senior program managers, advanced maritime technology. Carpentier currently manages the Center for Naval Shipbuilding Technology and three other Office of Naval Research programs. House has the overall responsibility for day-to-day management of a $10 million collaboration of leading U.S. shipyards.

Gary E. Jones has come out of retirement to become the chief executive officer of the Center for Economic & Industry Research LLC. During his 35-year career, Jones served as a partner with Petrinovich, Pugh & Jones, a CPA firm in San Francisco.

Lester Rich and Benjamin Norris formed Forensic Fire Analysis LLC, a company that specializes in fire and explosion investigations to determine the origin, cause and circumstances of incidents. In addition, the company provides consultation, training and research in all aspects of fire, explosives and homeland security issues.

Buist Byars Pearce and Taylor LLC hired several new interns: Anne Hanley and Elizabeth Alexander for the North Charleston office; Summer Reyes for the West Ashley office; Justin Price and Ashley Long for the Mount Pleasant office; and Laura Simons for the Johns Island office.

Stephanie Taylor joined the Mount Pleasant office of AgentOwned Realty. She previously co-owned Hudson’s Import Service for 21 years.

Weichert Realtors–Dean-Kelby hired several new agents: Jason M. Taylor, Marty Chandler, Elliott Slater and Jason Tomer in the Johnnie Dodds office in Mount Pleasant.

Prudential Carolina Real Estate hired several new agents: Elizabeth Phillips, Sarah Vineyard, Jac McManus and Josh Watson in the Orleans Road office in West Ashley; Christy Dion in the Long Point Road office in Mount Pleasant; Trina Woods, Salvatore Sciortino and Carrie Lee Martin in the Main Street office in Summerville; Gene Kizer in the Wappoo Road office in James Island; Gabriel Bluestein in the Coleman Boulevard office in Mount Pleasant; Jane Hodge Batten in the Trolley Road office in Summerville; and Richard Dyas in the Broad Street office in downtown Charleston.

Michael Elmore joined Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic International Inc. as a commercial associate. Elmore has 14 years experience in leasing, brokerage, site-selection, construction management, development and general consulting.

Kirby Baker joined Park West Realty LLC as a sales associate. Kirby previously served in the United States Navy as a naval flight officer.

Coldwell Banker Coastal Properties hired Shalyn Howard as a sales associate. She previously worked at AgentOwned as a loan originator.

Kirk Bonnoitt joined Carolina Capital Management as a registered representative working in the Daniel Island office. Bonnoitt has seven years of experience in security products, financial planning and estate planning.

Moore Kirkland and Beauston LLP hired Monica Needy, Lindsay Hendrix and Kimberly LaZar. Needy, who has 20 years experience in accounting, is the staff accountant. Hendrix is the receptionist. LaZar is the staff accountant. She previously interned at Moore Kirkland and Beauston and has now joined the team full-time.

Edward H. Vaughan joined SunTrust Bank as vice president of the community banking group for the Charleston market. Vaughan has more than 10 years of experience in community and commercial banking.

Gamble Givens & Moody LLC hired Jennifer Steele, Emily Wair and Janet Alston. Steele, who has more than six years of experience in administration, is the administrative assistant for the East Cooper office. Wair is the administrative assistant for the Kiawah office. Alston, who has more than five years of experience, is the administrative assistant in the Summerville office.

Theron Snype was named minority business enterprise manager for the department of economic development with the city of Charleston. Snype’s experience includes collaboration with area agencies and faith communities, as well as employment and managerial positions with several minority-owned businesses.

The Comdyn Group has hired Jon Keeler as account manager.

Rick Rockwell and Emily Crowe joined the Historic Charleston Foundation. Rockwell, the manager of easements and technical outreach, has more than 10 years of experience managing construction projects, most recently with Meadors Construction. Crowe, the foundation’s administrative coordinator, interned at The Palmetto Project and most recently worked as a receptionist and paralegal with Krawcheck and Davidson LLC.

Chana N. Hinnant joined Buck Lumber & Building Supply Inc. as a staff accountant. Hinnant previously held positions with Spoleto Festival USA and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service.

Ryland Homes hired Michael Smith, John Moss and Diana Lopata. Smith and Moss joined the firm as homebuilders. Smith previously worked for Ryan Homes as a building superintendent and punch-out carpenter. Moss previously worked for Alex Mitchell Construction as a custom builder. Lopata is the newest member of the sales team.

Brett Monn joined Glasspro as the manager of the company’s Goose Creek car wash.

DocuSystems Inc. hired Ernie Ephraimson, Matt Mumpower and Carley Coleman. Ephraimson, with more than 18 years of experience in the copier industry, is the branch sales manager for the Charleston facility. He previously worked with Oce-Imagistics. Mumpower started his sales career with Handi-Clean. Coleman previously worked with copier firm NCR.

Rick Seidman was named president and CEO of Quoizel. Seidman joined Quoizel in 1989 and served the past four years as the vice president of sales and marketing for the company. Quoizel also promoted Ed Clark to senior vice president and promoted Tim Hensch from director of factory operations to vice president of operations. Clark joined Quoizel in 1982 and had served as vice president of operation since 2002. Hensch joined the company in 1995 as plant manager.

BKI-Worldwide appointed Nathan B. Jackson to the position of national retail sales manager for BKI-North America. Jackson previously spent 12 years with a Henny Penny food service equipment distributor in Chicago where he held positions as sales manager and vice president of sales.

Jill Renault has opened Provisions Provided, a new business designed to meet the needs of the time-starved by performing a range of services including grocery shopping, running weekly errands, planning parties and more.

Charles Eberhardt is the owner of Carolina Climate Masters, a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning company providing design, installation, service and repair of HVAC systems for residential and business customers.

Buist Byars Pearce & Taylor LLC relocated to 652 Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant to a larger facility to accommodate significant growth.

Jarrard Nowell and Russell LLC purchased its Charleston office building and reports growth of 44 percent over the same period in 2005.

John H. Brown has opened Cleanline Printing and Graphics as a sister company to JHB Associates. The new business specializes in large-format printing, laminating and mounting.

Christopher Karpus, has opened Karpus Design LLC, a new architectural firm providing services for school facilities, commercial, retail, residential, churches and health care.

Diagnostic Radiology of Charleston LLP announced the association of Dr. Timothy Berrigan in the practice of radiology with a specialization in neuroradiology at St. Francis Hospital. Berrigan previously spent two years in private practice on Hilton Head Island.

Kevin Vaughan joined Select Health of South Carolina as director of member services. Vaughn has 16 years of experience in the health care industry, including 12 years in call center management.

Kristen Nichols joined Clawson & Staubes LLC as an associate. She practices in the areas of tort and personal injury, insurance law, litigation and workers’ compensation.

Carolina FoodPros hired Al Bellino and Caleb Horner. Bellino is the sales and marketing manager. He was previously a general manager for FoodStaff. Horner, who has eight years culinary experience, is the culinary programs manager.

Caroline Jackson joined Crew Carolina LLC as general manager of The Boathouse on East Bay. She previously served as a general manager at the Village Chophouse in Mount Pleasant.

Rose Durden has joined Laura Alberts Tasteful Options as executive chef and catering director. She was formerly executive chef at Carolina’s Restaurant. In addition, Eric Wilson and Sean Rogerson joined the culinary team as sous-chef and pastry chef, respectively.

Life Cycle Engineering hired Craig Gardner, Barbara Lutes and Bob Doherty. Gardner joined as senior analyst in the applied technologies group. He has more than 15 years experience in information management technology. Lutes joined as an administrative assistant in the reliability solutions group. She has more than 10 years supporting Fortune 500 companies. Doherty joined as a subject matter expert. He has more than 34 years of experience in management, maintenance, maintenance-reliability and asset management.

Kim McManus, Kathleen Dayton and Chopper Johnson have joined the Charleston Regional Business Journal. McManus is the circulation assistant. She previously worked as a research associate for ArborGen LLC. Dayton is a staff writer who previously spent nine years as a reporter with The Sun News in Myrtle Beach. Johnson is the chief copy editor. He previously worked as a copy editor and page designer in the sports department of The Post and Courier.

Jessica Kersey was promoted to director of administration and business development at Trio Solutions Inc. , and Kelly Confer joined the firm as administrative assistant. Kersey was previously a project coordinator with Trio. Confer, with more than 15 years of experience, was previously a public affairs specialist at the Library of Congress.

DesignWorks promoted Lauren Stubbs, Evan Brandon and Patrick Johnson; the company also hired Cameron Barradale, Meredith Muse, Jennifer Jessup, and Jonathan LaRose. Stubbs, who has been with DesignWorks for five years, is now a project coordinator. Brandon, a registered landscape architect, is now a project coordinator. Johnson is now senior designer. Barradale and Muse have joined DesignWorks as designers. Jessup, who previously worked for Shelia Wertimer, is a designer. LaRose previously spent seven years in the landscape construction field.

Davis & Floyd Inc. promoted Kevin Thewes to manager of the survey and mapping department.
