DesignWorks Project Coordinator J.R. Kramer received LEED accreditation. He is now one of four LEED AP accredited landscape architects in South Carolina.

Motley Rice LLC received accolades from the South Carolina Public Relations Society of America and the Legal Marketing Association for several initiatives, including a Your Honor Award and a Mercury Award of merit for its firm brochure and a Silver Wing Award of Merit for the firm’s aviation litigation brochure. Century 21 Properties Plus announced that Debra Simmons and Philip Hapke with the Metro North Charleston office received the Masters Ruby Award for reaching $110,000-$142,999 in adjusted gross commission or 30-39 units. The office also announced that Ron Henderson earned the Centurion Producer Award for his 2005 sales success.

Several scholarships were awarded during the 33rd annual South Carolina International Trade Conference. The recipients were Marisa Niparts, University of South Carolina, donated by the S.C. International Trade Conference Scholarship; Catherine Fitzsimmons, Clemson Universtiy, donated by the Charlotte Roundtable, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals; Samir Masic, USC, donated by Expeditors; Jefferson Fuller, USC, donated by Maersk Line/APM Terminals/Bridge Terminal Transport; Silvia Adams, Columbia College, donated by Orient Overseas Container Line; Britta Lauterwasser, Clemson, donated by Safe-Ports/Carolinks; Nicole Nissen, Clemson, donated by Selee Corp.; and Aaron Flaaen, USC, donated by the S.C. Stevedores Association.

B.P. Barber and Associates was listed among the top 500 design firms nationwide, ranking No. 492, in the April 2006 edition of the Engineering News-Record, a weekly trade newspaper for the construction industry. Firms were selected based upon the total revenue for design services performed in 2005.

Custom Development Solutions Inc. has been retained by Camp Spearhead, a residential camp for children and adults with disabilities in Greenville County, to conduct a campaign feasibility and planning study.

Wachovia Wealth Management recognized its Palmetto Team, led by Tom Clymer, as the top team among its 53 teams in the United States. The ranking is based on 2005 sales performance.

Tencarva Machinery Co. announced the acquisition of the municipal division of the Emory Wilson Co.

Youth Entrepreneurship South Carolina recognized several Lowcountry students and teachers for achievements in entrepreneurship. In the student category, Gabriel Tatev of Murray-LaSaine Elementary School received the Tommy Baker Award; Madeline Marian of James Island Charter High School received the Paul Hulsey Award; and Devin Currie of Fort Dorchester High School received the Mark Motley Foundation Award. The three each received a laptop computer and a cash award. In the teacher category, Maria Williams of Fort Dorchester High School received the Motley Rice Award; Brian Mitchell of Hanahan High School received the Carolina Federal Savings Award; and Andre Dukes of James Island Charter High School received the Wachovia Insurance Services Award in recognition of their utilization of the Nation Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship curriculum. The three received cash awards. Dukes was also recognized for being named one of 23 worldwide NFTE Teacher of the Year Award winners.

The South Carolina Bar Foundation unveiled The Wilburn Brewer Jr. Memorial Professional Fund in memory of the Nexsen Pruet partner who passed away in 2003.

The South Carolina Agency honored MassMutual’s Andy Breuker as a field associate at the “Top of Their Game.”

Margaret Billmyer, a real estate agent with its Mount Pleasant office, earned the Century 21 Properties Plus System’s Centurion Producer Award following her 2005 sales success.

Coward Hund Construction Co. received the Million Dollar Club Award from Nucor Building Systems for over $1 million in shipments in 2005.

Cheryl Merschen was named MassMutual’s 2005 Premium Leader for Third-Year Producers. The award recognizes the top producer in class years one through four for first-year commissions, policies and premiums.

Liz Sheridan with the Medical University of South Carolina Gives Back program is the recipient of the Robin Burns Administrator Award from the South Carolina Association for Volunteer Administration and the governor’s office.

Daniel Q. Orvin, an associate with Buist Moore Smythe McGee PA, presented at the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Annual Symposia in San Diego, Calif. He spoke on current and evolving trend in condominium development and structuring.

Cathy Harrell, wife of S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell, received the “Woman of the Year” award from the S.C. House Republican Women’s Caucus.

Amy H. Temkin of Rosen Law Firm was selected to make a member exchange presentation at the 31st annual convention of the National Association of Legal Assistants in Tampa, Fla. Temkin is the vice president and NALA liaison of the Charleston Association of Legal Assistants and is the delegate to the S.C. Alliance of Legal Assistant Associations.

At the Scottish Food Systems Inc. annual general managers meeting, North Charleston General Manager P. Ryan O’Neal and his staff received the following awards: First Place Sales Recognition for the highest increase over previous year; Second Place QSC Excellence for quality service and cleanliness; the Charles Wentz Award for employee retention; and Runner-up for General Manager of the Year.

Katie Whitman, vice president, Dunhill Staffing Systems of Charleston, was awarded the Certified Personnel Consultant designation by the National Association of Personnel Services, the staffing industry’s largest trade and education association.

Michele Reneau of Prudential Carolina Real Estate earned her national certifications as a Certified New Home Specialist and a Residential Construction Certified Professional.

H. Blair Hahn spoke at the Pharmaceutical and Human Tissue Litigation Conference at the Charleston Place Hotel. The topic was “Zyprexa-Status of the Settlement Agreement.” Hahn was one of the leading negotiators for the $700 million-Zyprexa settlement.

Dr. Brad Collins of the University of South Carolina spoke at the Gibbes Museum of Art. The subject of the lecture was “Hopper: Loneliness and Light” and was presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Edward Hopper in Charleston,” on view at the Gibbes.

MassMutual Financial Group announced that John Heron has ranked fifth in the five-year-plus category for MassMutual’s LiveStyles contest. The nation-wide sales event measures the amount of reported life, disability and long-term care insurance policies sold by agents during the months of March and April 2006.

Gordon Nicholson, owner, Gordon A. Nicholson, Architect LLC, earned a Grand Award in the 2005 Remodeling Design Awards for his addition/renovation of the Crymes/Weeks residence in West Ashley. Frank Lauro Jr. of Colonial Restoration LLC provided full construction services on the residence. Andrew Smith of Landsmith was the landscape architect.
