EDUCATION
Michael H. Schwartz will join the faculty of the Charleston School of Law in August. Currently, Schwartz, the director of the Western State University College of Laws STELLAR law student program, teaches courses in contracts, remedies and insurance law. He also is the author of Expert Learning for Law Students.
ARCHITECTURE ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION
Jennifer English joined SGM Architects Inc. as an interior designer. She is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelors degree in fine arts/interior design.
Sandy Bruorton joined Chastain Construction as a bookkeeper. She has 20 years of accounting experience, 10 of which are in the construction industry.
HITT Contracting Inc. promoted Carson Knizevski to vice pres-ident of the Charleston office. Knizevski joined the company in 1999 as a project manager. In 2002, he was promoted to director of operations and responsible for managing HITT Contractings office in Charleston.
Life Cycle Engineering named Wally Wilson a subject matter expert in materials management and Bob Peffen as a reliability solutions consultant. Wilson has more than 12 years of experience in materials management and maintenance management in manufacturing. Peffen has more than 25 years of plant engineering and maintenance management experience in the chemical, pulp and paper and textile industries.
REAL ESTATE
Carrie and Bob Hughes joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as real estate agents working in the Metro North Charleston office. Carrie Hughes has 25 years of paralegal experience. She is also certified to teach South Carolina real estate courses. Bob Hughes has worked 30 years as a commercial driver.
John H. Tison was appointed principal and president of the South Carolina operations of Commercial Carolina of South Carolina. Tison recently represented the Noisette Co. LLC in its redevelopment plans on the former Charleston Naval Base.
The Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic International team added J. David DiNunzio and Scott Ingram to its staff. DiNunzio specializes in hospitality and golf course sales. Previously, he was with the Club at Cordillera in Vail, Colo., and Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., where he managed suite catering. Ingram specializes in the office leasing and sales area. He previously worked as a restaurateur. Theresa Case rejoined the Coldwell Banker team, working as an administrative assistant. She is pursuing a legal assistant degree from Trident Technical College.
ZZG & Co. Real Estate hired Martín Olmeda. He has been in the real estate business for 29 years, having transferred his license from Santee.
Linda Brinkley joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as a real estate agent working in the Mount Pleasant office. Brinkley previously owned three hair salons in Mount Pleasant.
MEDIA & MARKETING
Jefferson-Pilot Communications, which owns and operates WCSC Channel 5, promoted Rita ONeill to senior vice president and general manager, overseeing all operations at WCSC. She joined Jefferson-Pilot Communications in 1989 and has held several positions, including vice president and general manager of WCSC, general sales manager and national sales manager.
Charleston magazine hired its first in-house style editor. Former freelance stylist and magazine contributor Ayoka Lucas will produce ICharleston, Charleston Home and Charleston Weddings magazines. She will produce a fashion feature spotlighting local looks as well as the Style File report for each issue.
MANUFACTURING
Purafilter 2000, a Las Vegas-based air-filter company, appointed Gerald Purvis route sales representative in the Charleston market. Purvis brings more than eight years of sales and merchandising experience to the company. He recently handled merchandising for The Home Depot.
FINANCE
Rudy Gill joins First National Bank of South Carolina as market president to manage the banks new loan production office in Mount Pleasant. Gill has more than 13 years of experience in banking.
NEW BUSINESS
Winn Query has opened Rooms to Dream, a childrens furnishings and accessories store, at 1722 Old Towne Road in Charleston.
AUTOMOTIVE
Sherry Lee joined Glasspro Inc. as a customer service representative. Prior to joining the company, Lee spent more than 13 years in the glass industry. In addition, Mark Browning, certified technician, moved to Glasspros Goose Creek repair center, and technician Tim Beane relocated to the companys Summerville center.
HEALTH CARE
Bret D. Johnson was promoted to vice president and chief financial officer at Roper St. Francis Healthcare. He served as the systems interim CFO since November 2004. Prior to joining Roper, Johnson spent eight years as a health care audit manager with Arthur Andersen LLP in Charlotte, N.C.
NONPROFIT
The National Association For Continence hired Melissa Jenkins as membership and fund development associate. Previously, she was development associate for Outward Bound West in Portland, Ore.
LAW
Ogletree Deakins is expanding its Charleston office with the promotion of Ben Glass to shareholder. Ashley Cooper returns to the firm after serving as the legislative director/counsel to Sen. Ernest F. Hollings and as assistant general counsel and chief compliance officer for federal standards of conduct for SCANA Corp. Glass focuses on employment law and labor. He is a former law clerk to the Honorable Henry M. Herlong Jr., U.S. district judge for the District of South Carolina.
TRANSPORTATION
Smith Dray Line acquired the Charleston office of Lawrence Transportation Systems, a United Van Lines agent based in Roanoke, Va. Samuel Turrentine III will move to Charleston to serve as general manager of the new office.
HOSPITALITY & TOURISM
Belvidere Club & Resort, which owns and operates The Cottages on Charleston Harbor, RiverTowne Country Club and Patriots Point Links golf course, appointed Chris Haviland general manager. He will oversee operations, marketing and sales at those properties as well as take a leadership role in future hospitality acquisitions as the resort expands its presence in Charleston. Previously, Haviland was general manager for Wild Dunes Resort.
SPORTS
The Charleston Battery hired Peter Thomason as its executive chef. Thomason previously was with Sienna on Daniel Island. Thomason joins the Battery as part of the clubs new concessions company, Event Hospitality Services. He will be in charge of all Three Lions Club food and Battery Club food during the 2005 season.
