Special Olympics South Carolina presented the Charleston Battery Owners Group with its Special Olympics S.C. 2004 Hero Award. The award is given annually to an organization that has shown year-round commitment to children and adults with intellectual disabilities who train and compete in Special Olympics.
Marc Marchant of LS3P Associates Ltd. passed the architectural registration exam and is a registered architect in South Carolina.
LS3P Associates Ltd. was ranked among the top 100 interior architecture/design giants in Interior Design magazines 2005 Giants Survey. LS3P Associates recent project for Pearlstine Distributors was featured in the January 2005 issue.
Charles S. Way Jr., chairman of The Beach Co., was elected into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame. He will be honored at the 21st annual Business Hall of Fame banquet May 26 in Columbia, S.C. The hall of fame honors South Carolinians who, through their accomplishments, serve as champions of free enterprise and role models for tomorrows business leaders.
The Lowcountry Housing and Economic Development Foundation Inc. was awarded a $219,000 grant to help 15 low- to moderate-income families obtain homeownership. The board of commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority approved the award from the South Carolina Trust Fund.
Coastal Heritage, a quarterly publication of the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, recently won two awardsa Grand Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and a Distinguished Award from the Carolina Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. The spring 2004 issue of Coastal Heritage won the CASE Grand Award for its outstanding content, graphic design and communication effectiveness. The STC Distinguished Award is the top award in the technical publications category. The winning entry now will move on to be judged at the STC International Technical Publication competition. Coastal Heritage is written by John Tibbetts and art directed by Patty Snow.
Goff-DAntonio Associates won two Carolopolis Awards at the Preservation Societys annual meeting. These awards were for the adaptive reuse of 131 Spring St. for Tiger Lily Florist and the renovation of the Blake Tenement House for Charleston County.
Seamon, Whiteside & Associates Inc. Vice President Stuart D. Whiteside received the Charleston Trident Home Builders Association 2004 Presidents Award. The award recognizes Whitesides volunteer work with the CTHBA Government Affairs Committee.
Nelda D. Fields, a health care consultant with WebsterRogers LLP, earned her certification from the American College of Medical Practice Executives. She also recently earned her MBA from Charles-ton Southern University.
Cindy Smith, ac-count executive for Comcast Spotlight, received the Comcast Spotlight Presidents Club Award for advertising sales ex-cellence in 2004.
Kim Wright, area director of Comcast Spotlight, completed Comcasts Executive Leadership Forum, preparing senior level management for future endeavors. Wright has been with the advertising sales division of Comcast for more than 10 years.
Century 21 Properties Plus honored Debra Simmons with the Fred McKay Award, given annually to the agent or employee who volunteers in the community, making a positive impact on the lives of Lowcountry citizens. Simmons earned the award based on her community involvement with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and My Sisters House, a shelter for battered and abused women. In addition, Simmons received the Century 21 Properties Plus 2004 Rookie of the Year Award for the Metro North office and was named among the Top 21 agents in the company for 2004. She also was recognized for achieving the Century 21 Systems national Masters-Ruby Award.
