Michael Edwards, Chad McDonald, Chris Humphries, Jack Crow, Philip Anderson and Ben Story have joined Schmitt Walker Architects Inc. Edwards is a project architect. He will manage multi-family housing projects throughout the Southeast. Edwards was previously with Design South Professionals in Anderson. McDonald is a residential project manager and will be responsible for the design, production and construction administration of custom single-family homes. McDonald was previously with Wayne Windham Architect of Charleston. Humphries is a project manager on multi-family and custom single-family residential projects. He was previously with Tynes Associates of North Charleston. Crow is a project manager for custom single-family residential projects. He was previously with Stephen Herlong & Associates in Isle of Palms. Anderson is a project manager overseeing the production of construction documents and administration for a variety of residential and light commercial projects. He was previously with Charles Blanchard Construction Corp. of Charleston. Story is an intern architect. He received his masters degree in architecture from Clemson University.
Atrium Builders has added William Fishburne to its staff as an assistant project manager. Fishburne, a 2005 graduate of the University of South Carolina, is a licensed S.C. real estate agent.
Holly Faucette-Balcer has joined Olsten Staffing Services as an account manager. Faucette-Balcer will be responsible for account management, recruiting and new sales. She has eight years of staffing industry experience in the Charleston market.
Motley Rice LLC announced additions to its senior management team. Elizabeth M. Branner has been named the firms director of human resources; J. Roger Crombie has been named manager of shared services; Christa M. Dunn has been named director of accounting; and Joel D. Edwards has been named chief information officer. All four will work in the firms Mount Pleasant headquarters. Branner is responsible for the leadership, performance and effectiveness of operations related to employee benefits, staffing, policies, employee relations, compensation, safety and training. Crombie brings nearly 30 years of experience in the legal profession to the firm and will oversee various departments that provide administrative and litigation support services to the firms nine practice groups. Dunn oversees all accounting functions and supervises all accounting staff across all offices. Edwards brings more than 22 years of experience in multilevel management to the firm and is responsible for more than 30 staff members, supporting all telecommunications and information systems used by the firm at all locations.
Susan K. Tuite has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough where she will practice in the area of health law. Prior to joining Nelson Mullins, Tuite was the COO of a multi-physician group, Florida Pediatric Neurosurgery Inc., in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tuite also served as assistant general counsel for All Childrens Hospital.
Mark C. Brandenburg has joined The Citadel as general counsel. He will be responsible for coordinating all of the colleges legal matters, including labor relations, contract negotiations, environmental issues, student affairs, real estate issues, gifts and development, construction issues, records access and litigation.
Young Clement Rivers LLP announced the addition of attorneys Francesca Elizabeth Bosco, Brian L. Quisenberry and Lynnley Miles to the firm as associates. Bosco, a cum laude graduate of Harvard College, received her Juris Doctor in 2005 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bosco will practice with the trucking and transportation group. Quisenberry, a cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, will practice with the employment and labor law group. Miles, a cum laude graduate of Clemson University, will practice with the workers compensation group.
Merl F. Code has joined Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart PC as counsel. Code will concentrate his practice in the areas of positive employee relations and diversity.
Helen Roper has joined Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor LLC as associate attorney. Roper will assist the firm in handling residential and commercial real estate transactions and development. Previously, Roper was an associate attorney with Lisa Wolff Herbert PA in Mount Pleasant.
Rawle Murdy has hired Claire Gibbons and Kathe Downs as public relations account directors. As account directors, Downs and Gibbons are responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of programs and strategies for Rawle Murdys public relations clients. Previously, Downs owned and managed Downs-Online and provided strategic communications plans for Cingular Wireless. Gibbons has more than 10 years of public relations experience working for such firms as Golin-Harris International and Rogers & Associates, located in Washington, D.C.
E. Boineau & Co. has added a new associate, Allison R. Leggett, to the team. Leggett, a 20-year veteran communications and marketing professional, will serve as account director. Leggett has worked as a freelance writer and marketing consultant in the Charleston area for 10 years.
Katie Kern recently joined Cognetix as an associate account executive. A native of Augusta, Ga., Kern holds a bachelors degree in communications from Augusta State University. Previously, she worked for Sprint PSC as advertising and marketing communications specialist and for Reebok and Casual Male Retail Group in Boston.
Todd Fowler has been named president of the brokerage division of American Media Services. Fowler has led the division since 2003. He previously worked with ABC Radio Networks in Dallas, where he was senior director of affiliate relations.
Systems and Services LLC announced the hiring of Emily Miller and Jennifer Daniels as account managers. Miller and Daniels will be responsible for technical sales in the networking systems integration and structured cabling industry.
Nadine Evans has been named vice president of operations for PST Computing Technologies. Evans has been with PST since April 2000. Cecelia Poplin has been named vice president of training for PST. Poplin joined PST in January 2004 as lead instructor. Brooke McClelland has been named executive assistant for PST. McClelland joined PST in February 2005 in the capacity of registrar.
WebsterRogers LLP announced staff promotions. Nancy Van Ast has been promoted to senior manager. She graduated from Sienna College in Albany, N.Y., with a bachelors degree in business administration. Sheryl McAllister has been promoted to manager with the tax group. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston. Christine Chance has been promoted to manager. She is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University in New York.
William A. Russell III has joined Jarrard, Nowell & Russell LLC as a principal in the certified public accounting and business advisory firm. Russell began his career as assistant treasurer for Cameron & Barkley Co. and has served as director of treasury and risk management for Hagemeyer North American Inc. and as assistant vice president with Marsh Management Services Inc.
Laurie B. Holscher has changed positions within First Federal and recently joined the banks mortgage lending team in Charleston. She is a former assistant manager in First Federals office on Savannah Highway and has six years in the financial services industry.
Joseph Beck has joined the audit department of Pratt-Thomas, Gumb & Co. PA. Beck holds a bachelors degree in business administration from The Citadel and has been working in public accounting for eight years. He will concentrate on small business audits.
Jill Anderson Cope, Stacey W. Simmons and Sheri Zolner have joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as real estate agents. Cope and Simmons will work out of the Johns Island location. Zolner will work out of the Mount Pleasant office. Cope was previously a senior marketing specialist at Colonial Properties Trust in Charleston. Simmons served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and received the Kuwait Liberation Medal for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He is also a customer service representative at Builders FirstSource on Johns Island. Zolner previously worked in human resources management for 21 years.
Burt Rhodes has joined Sperry Van Ness/Commercial Properties LLC in Mount Pleasant, specializing in income-producing real estate with a focus on multifamily properties in South Carolina. Rhodes has nearly 20 years of entrepreneurial, sales and marketing experience.
Ryland Homes announced the addition of Eleanor Berka as the sales and marketing manager. Berka has several years of experience working with major real estate groups, including Prudential Preferred in Pittsburgh, and Century 21 Properties Plus. In her new position, Berka will be responsible for all sales and marketing efforts in the Charleston and future Myrtle Beach markets.

ERA Tides Realty announced the hiring of Katharine Salzgeber and Brad Hager. Salzgeber earned her bachelors degree from USF and previously worked for Accenture Learning in Highlands Ranch, Colo. Hager, a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, has been a full time realtor for seven years and is licensed in both South Carolina and Florida.
Thomas A. Nipper and Scott Liipfert have joined Disher, Hamrick & Myers as real estate agents. Nipper was recently with William Means Real Estate and before that spent 25 years with Belk Inc. Liipfert attended Woodbury Forest and graduated from Wofford College with a bachelors degree in economics.

Clarissa Lugo Poston, a 2002 graduate of The Citadel, has been promoted to assistant director of admissions at her alma mater. She is one of three assistant admissions directors who recruit and work with prospective cadets. A native of Eagle Pass, Texas, Poston received a bachelors of science in education in May 2002. She taught sixth-grade social studies for a year at Alice Birney Middle School in Charleston before coming to The Citadel.
Lt. Gen. John Rosa will assume his responsibilities as the 19th president of The Citadel at the beginning of spring semester. The president-elect turned over his duties as superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy during a change-of- command ceremony Oct. 24 and will retire from active duty. Gen. Rosa has asked Maj. Gen. Roger C. Poole to continue leading the college as interim president through the end of the fall semester.
Care For Life has promoted Debra L. Wright to vice president of finance and administration. Wright joined Care For Life in 2002 after returning from a civil service position in Saudia Arabia.
Dana Scarborough has joined The South Carolina General Agency of MassMutual as the agency licensing and contracting coordinator. Scarborough started with the agency in May 2005 as a marketing intern after graduating from the College of Charleston.
Horne/Guest, Employee Benefit Specialists, owned by Brandon Guest, has relocated to 1012 eWall St. in Mount Pleasant to accomodate its recent growth. Guest received his Certified Employee Benefit Specialist certification from Wharton University.
Brixx Wood Fired Pizza opened at the Belle Hall Shopping Center in Mount Pleasant. Jason Crossway is managing the new restaurant, which will employ approximately 50 people.
Beaners Gourmet Coffee, a Lansing, Mich.-based coffee house franchise, opened its first location in South Carolina in the Queensborough Shopping Center in Mount Pleasant.
Sprinter Service of Charleston, a new division of Star Motor Service Inc., is now open on Bees Ferry Road in West Ashley. Sprinter Service will provide service, parts, accessories and paint-and-body work for all Sprinter models.
Chip Deaton and Scott Connelly have partnered to launch the Charleston Water Taxi. The pairs 40-foot Corinthian Catamaran will take passengers from the Maritime Center to Patriots Point and Shem Creek.
