B-17 Flying Fortress buzzes above Charleston area

The Liberty Bell B-17 Flying Fortress recently landed at the Charleston International Airport to give airplane buffs and World War II veterans tours and offered half-hour flights for $395 per person.

This is one of a dozen B-17 still able to fly of the more than 12,700 built during the war. The Liberty Bell was built in 1945 and recently restored at a cost of $3.5 million.

The B-17 could fly roughly 1,850 miles each mission with a crew of 10. It had 13 machine guns that could fire more than 13 rounds per second.
