Citizens can now apply online for Charleston County jobs

Applying for a job with Charleston County Government is now much easier for anyone who has Internet access. The public can now submit their applications online at www.charlestoncounty.org.

“We are very excited to be able to provide this new service to the public,” says Amy Southerland, of the county’s Human Resources Department. “We wanted to provide better customer service to the public by delivering an easy to use online job application system. We can now process applications faster, so ultimately we can also fill our positions more quickly.”

The online application system eliminates the need to apply in person, or to print out and send in an application, although the county will accept those options. Another benefit of the new system is that a copy of the application will be saved in the county’s computer system so users can easily resubmit it for another position without having to retype the information. If desired, a resume can either be sent as an attachment or may be copied and pasted into a text box that is part of the application.

In order to apply online, users will be asked to create an account login ID and password to use each time they access the system. They will then be able to submit their job history, education and skills information into the application template. After their qualifications are entered, they can apply for a position by viewing job postings and clicking on the apply button.

“The online application system reduces the amount of paperwork, so staff will be able to process applications and fill positions more efficiently. Applications will be electronically forwarded to the appropriate department after the position close date,” Southerland says.

Charleston County only accepts applications for specific job openings, and each of those job openings has a job position number that the applicant must refer to. To view available job openings and apply for Charleston County government jobs online, go to www.charlestoncounty.org and select “employment” on the side bar.
