Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman attorney K. Elizabeth Middleton was named to the board of trustees for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America’s National College of Advocacy. Middleton, whose practice areas include medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs, has been with the firm since January 2003. Middleton’s appointment runs from Aug. 1, 2005, through July 31, 2008.

The board of directors of the John Ancrum Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals elected Susan Legare and Meggett B. Lavin as trustees. Lavin was the curator of education and research for Drayton Hall for 18 years. Legare is the chief financial officer for Bishop Gadsden, a life care retirement community located on James Island.

The Charleston Citywide Local Development Corp. elected the following directors: Arnold Collins (vice president), Elizabeth Bartlett, Kenneth R. Davenport (secretary), Joseph P. Riley Jr., Renee Gaters (treasurer), Louis Waring, Randall Goldman, Richard K. Yonce, Linda H. Kennedy (president), Dorothy G. Harrison, Baird A. Mallory and S. Yvonne Fortenberry (assistant secretary). This corporation is an economic development organization focused on revitalization needs within defined target areas, eliminating blight and maintaining the identity of Charleston.

William L. Merschen of Ladson joined Charleston Southern University’s board of visitors. Merschen is a financial services professional with Mass Mutual Financial Group in Mount Pleasant. He will serve on the board until Dec. 31, 2008.

The Junior League of Charleston Inc. appointed board members for 2005-2006. Amelia Jenkins, principal of The Tides Financial Management, is president. Caryn Vedane, owner of Vedane Interiors, is vice president. Elizabeth Joyce, owner of Harbor Specialties, is treasurer. Shelley Grant Julian, national sales manager for Charleston Place Hotel, is marketing vice president. Holland A. Williams, professor of marketing at the College of Charleston, is community vice president. Jennifer Cheek, attorney with McNair Law Firm P.A., is fundraising vice president. Alicia Gregory, president of Gregory Management Co., is membership vice president. Anne Walpole, a homemaker involved with several community organizations, is nominating chair. Betsy Meares, who is involved with several local community service organizations, is strategic planning chair. Betsy Pringle, a technical writer with Blackbaud Inc., is recording secretary. Stephanie Atkinson, owner of O’Connor Monogramming and Embroidery, is sustainer advisor.
