HOSPITALITY & TOURISM

Haynes Poe joined the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce as tourism coordinator. Poe is a recent graduate of Clemson University with a degree in travel and tourism.

NEW BUSINESS Leah England and Renee Johnson launched Lowcountry Dog, a magazine for local dog owners and fanciers featuring news, profiles and dog-related events. England is the former marketing manager at Litton Entertainment. Johnson is a former editor of the Charleston Regional Business Journal and has published numerous historical novels.

Steve Stubbs opened a branch of Mosquito Squad in Charleston. Based in Charlotte, N.C., the company sells a sprinkler system that mists pyrethrum for about 45 seconds two to four times each day to rid outdoor areas of mosquitoes.

MEDIA & MARKETING Mitchell Crosby joined the publishing team at charleston and charleston home magazines as entertaining style editor. Crosby owns JMC Charleston, a full-scale event planning and design company.

Doug Coupe, president of Coupe Public Relations Inc., relocated the company’s corporate offices to 234 Seven Farms Drive on Daniel Island.

Paige Canaday Crone, the former director of public relations for Johnson & Wales University, joined E. Boineau & Co. as an associate account manager. Crone is responsible for day-to-day management, including marketing research, writing, messaging and media research, and strategy and placement for several of the agency’s accounts.

GOVERNMENT

The board of commissioners of the city of Charleston Commissioners of Public Works appointed John B. Cook from assistant general manager to general manager. Cook has been with CPW since 1985 and has more than 28 years of environmental and management experience. Cook replaces William “Billy” Koopman Jr., who will retire in August.

LAW

Hamlin O’Kelley III joined real estate law firm Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor LLC as an associate attorney in the litigation department. Previously, O’Kelley was an associate attorney at Leath, Bouch & Crawford and also at Simons & Keaveny, both of Charleston. 

McAngus Goudelock & Courie LLC hired Mikell H. Wyman to concentrate on workers’ compensation defense. He previously has practiced civil litigation, domestic litigation, residential real estate and workers’ compensation defense. 

ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION

Orbital Engineering & Consulting LLC hired Mike Taylor as project manager. He has experience in construction and project management. Jacob Delap joined the staff as an electrical design engineer. He has experience in the electrical design of educational, residential, business and renovation/restoration building projects. Robert A. “Rob” Rettew is the firm’s principal mechanical engineer with 28 years of engineering experience. Chris Spiers is the firm’s principal electrical engineer. He is a Navy veteran and has more than 20 years experience in design and project engineering.

Ronald R. Austin joined Soil Consultants Inc., a geotechnical engineering firm, as a senior geotechnical engineer. He was formerly a branch manager for WPC in Myrtle Beach.

Jeff S. Douglas joined HDR, an engineering, architectural and consulting firm, as transportation marketing manager for the Carolinas, and he will spend some of his time in the Charleston office. Previously, Douglas was a senior roadway manager for The LPA Group of North Carolina Inc.

Andrew Beck rejoined the I’On Group LLC as director of development. Beck was one of the original members of the project management team at I’On and will manage development activities of the Mount Pleasant community. He also will direct development operations at Morris Square, a 64-home urban infill community in downtown Charleston, as well as the I’On Group’s latest project, Mixson Village, in North Charleston.

NONPROFIT

Trident United Way hired three staff members. Mary Bowman is client services associate at Trident United Way’s service center in Summerville. Bowman spent 30 years as a licensed practical nurse. Megan Hazelman is the promoting health and wellness coordinator. She is responsible for developing Trident United Way’s “Your Health Matters” initiative. Previously, she was the community involvement specialist for the University of North Carolina’s Environmental Resource Program. Janice Hunt is the community building assistant, responsible for overseeing and organizing the community investment process, including reports, meetings and procedures. She most recently was an administrative assistant for the Department of Social Services.

Kari Heuer joined Winkler Consulting Group Inc. as a development associate. She has experience in recruiting, marketing, sales and business development. 

Kara J. Martin joined Ronald McDonald House Charities as development director. Formerly Martin was director of programs and events at the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce.

The American Red Cross, Carolina Lowcountry Chapter hired James Ledbetter Jr. as executive director. Ledbetter most recently was executive director of American Red Cross, High Point-Thomasville Chapter in North Carolina.

INSURANCE

Shane Austin joined The South Carolina General Agency of MassMutual as a financial representative. Previously, Austin worked at the Men’s Warehouse in Charleston. William L. Merschen also joined MassMutual as a financial services professional. He previously worked for MassMutual in Providence, R.I.

REAL ESTATE

Dexter A. Simon joined the sales team at Weichert, Realtors Dean-Kelby. He specializes in residential sales to first-time homebuyers, individuals and families in the Charleston area, Summerville and Walterboro. Simon had a 14-year career as a district manager of Rex stores. Ashley Donner will combine her work as a freelance writer with real estate sales at the company. She specializes in residential sales to first-time homebuyers and empty nesters in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, West Ashley and James Island.

Commercial Carolina of South Carolina appointed William G. Moeckel Jr. as a principal of the firm, specializing in investment sales focusing on the hospitality and recreational land development industries. Moeckel led hospitality industry real estate and finance initiatives for a diverse roster of clients as a partner in Thayer Hotel Investments L.P. and as president of Moeckel & Co., a real estate investment and advisory services firm he formed in 1986.

Lauren Howell was promoted from property manager to associate at Clement, Crawford & Thornhill Inc., handling more than 50 tenants in Charleston. She joined the firm in April 2003.

Collier Louis Kidd and Carl Caldeira joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as real estate agents working in Mount Pleasant. Kidd previously was an assistant farm manager and wildlife manager for eight years at Wallington Plantation in Newton, Ga. Caldeira was a real estate consultant for two years at Keller Williams Realty and was president and chief executive office of Rapid Granulator Inc., a global plastics processing equipment manufacturer, for 17 years.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Jeff King and Patti Pierce joined the Titan Corp. King is a senior systems analyst and recently retired from the U.S. Navy, having served with the Missile Defense Agency and previously as a surface warfare officer. Pierce is a software engineer and program manager. She has more than 18 years experience managing information technology, including enterprise systems for Fortune 500 companies and government clients.

HEALTH CARE

MST Services promoted psychologists Dr. Molly Brunk and Dr. Lisa Reiter-Lavery to vice presidents within the company. Both psychologists have been affiliated with MST Services since 2000 and most recently were managers of network partnerships. Multisystemic therapy is a treatment model that can be adopted by any organization that provides services to the families of youths with serious behavior problems.

EDUCATION

Julie Londergan joined Pinewood Preparatory School as chief financial officer. Londergan previously worked as finance director for the Summerville Family YMCA. She has 15 years’ experience in the finance and accounting field. Pinewood also hired Al Graham as facilities/project manager. Graham previously was a supervisor for Portrait Homes. He also worked in facility management for the U.S. Border Patrol Academy.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Holly Faulkner Clayson joined the Condon Food Co. of Charleston as marketing director. CFC owns five restaurants, including Tommy Condon’s, AW Shucks and Bocci’s Italian Restaurant. Previously, Clayson was a marketing representative with TBonz Restaurant Group and a producer at ABC News Channel 4.

EVENT PLANNING

JMC Charleston hired Mary McIlhenny as operations manager, overseeing tours and private events at the Calhoun Mansion as well as special events at Crosby’s Dock and other Lowcountry venues. Previously, McIlhenny worked in the Historic Charleston Foundation’s development office and was a sales associate for Candelabra.

FINANCE Richard Pierce was promoted to banking officer and assistant branch manager at Community First Bank’s West Ashley office. Pierce joined the bank in 1997 and has served in various positions.

Jodi A. Griffin joined the CPA and consulting firm of WebsterRogers LLP as a staff accountant in the tax group. Before joining the Charleston office, she worked for an Atlanta-based CPA firm.

Art Harper was promoted to vice president of electronic services at South Carolina Federal Credit Union. He has been with the company eight years, most recently serving as branch manager at the West Ashley location.

Jarrett Hodson joined Community FirstBank as a mortgage loan officer for the Charleston-Mount Pleasant area. He is a recent graduate of The Citadel with a degree in English.
