Businessman supports local Hope Lodge

Gene Reed Jr. of Charleston’s Gene Reed Toyota and Lexus of Charleston (right) presents $500,000 to Dr. Fred Worsham, American Cancer Society chairman of the board South Atlantic Division (left), and Edwin Pearlstine Jr., Charleston Hope Lodge Expansion Campaign Chairman (middle). The donation benefits Charleston Hope Lodge, a project of the American Cancer Society that provides free, unlimited housing for cancer patients and their caregivers. This gift will become a part of a larger expansion, more than doubling the current capacity at the Hope Lodge.

Credit Union benefits home for girls

South Carolina Federal Credit Union donated $500 to the Tri-County Home for Girls. The facility creates a structured living situation to help women between the ages of 12 to 21 who have been physically, mentally or sexually abused. The program gives young women who are experiencing difficulties in a traditional foster home the opportunity to complete their education while gaining positive control over their lives. The donation will benefit restoration projects in and around the facility.

EMS Golf Tournament benefits local charity

The annual Electronic Merchant Systems Ronald McDonald House Golf Tournament raised $50,000 this year. Charlie Koci, owner of Electronic Merchant Systems, started the golf tournament in 2002 as a way to give back to the local community.

Child abuse prevention group to receive businesses’ help

The South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators selected Prevent Child Abuse of South Carolina to receive a year of free communication and public relations assistance from its chapter members. IABC/SC members around the state will volunteer their time and talent to help PCASC further its efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect in South Carolina. IABC is a not-for-profit international network of 13,500 professionals in 60 countries committed to improving the effectiveness of organizations through strategic interactive and integrated business communication management.

Museum benefits from local arts events

McCrady’s Restaurant hosted the second annual Art + Wine Auction with 10% of all proceeds from admission, art sales and the auction benefiting the Gibbes Museum of Art. Another fundraiser for the museum was the Just Fresh Artists Market at Just Fresh Bakery Café and Market. Local artists display their wares at the monthly event at Just Fresh’s Belle Hall location. Ten percent of all arts sales and 10% of all food sales benefit the museum.

Local chiropractic clinic raises money for Habitat

Atlantic Coast Family Chiropractic of Summerville chose Dorchester Habitat for Humanity to benefit from their “Beach Week” promotion. ACFC offered a special $10 screening promotion during the week of July 11–15. Patient Appreciation Day was July 15, and all proceeds were donated to Dorchester Habitat for Humanity.
