The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce honored Donna Klim, the owner of Candy Bouquet, with the 2004 Business of the Year Award. She was recognized for her exemplary leadership skills through her civic and business activities.
Brian Aiken of Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic International obtained his Certified Commercial Investment Member designation.
Skamper Industries Skamper-Ramp was chosen by the CBS Early Show as one of the hot new pet products of 2005. Skamper-Ramp is a water rescue device for pets and animals that attaches to a pool or boats swimming platform. Tom Davis of Mount Pleasant invented the product.
Paul Heinauer, president of Glasspro Inc., received the Sales Strategy Award from the PROSTARS Division of PPG Industries Inc., the nations largest autoglass manufacturer. Heinauer was recognized for his contributions to the PPG PROSTARS national branding campaign.
Soil Consultants Inc. received a 2004 Safety Program Recognition Award from the S.C. Chamber of Commerce. The company also received a Palmetto Safety Excellence Award from the S.C. Occupational Safety Council.
The Charleston Trident Association of Realtors presented Robert H. Nuttall Jr. with the 2004 Commercial Realtor of the Year award. The award recognizes a members local, state and national contributions to the community, real estate industry and association. Nuttall is a founder of Anchor Commercial, a brokerage, management and development firm.
The Charleston Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute received the Outstanding Chapter award at the institutes annual meeting in Chicago. Wade Lewis Gatlin of Schmitt Walker Architects accepted the award. The Charleston chapter was recognized for its outstanding professional development efforts, including certification study sessions, the administration of national certification exams, educational seminars and chapter meetings.
Shannon McDevitt, certified laughter leader and founder of Just Humor Me! Professional Presentations for the Fun Inspired & Fun Impaired, participated in The Positive Power of Humor, Hope & Healing, an international conference sponsored by The Humor Project. The conference featured more than 50 sessions focusing on the use of humor in business, health care, education, therapy and everyday life.
Denise Brooks, a member of staff development and human resources for Dorchester County School District 4, was honored at Woodland High Schools Aim High Assembly. Donald Simpson, teacher and band director at Woodland High School and an adjunct professor at The Citadel, was also honored during the assembly.
Terry Strawn was recognized by the National Bank of South Carolina as one of Marchs recipients of the 100 Faces of NBSC award. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, NBSC is recognizing 100 outstanding team members throughout the year who show extraordinary service to their customers and exemplary community service. A 14-year employee, Strawn is the branch manager for the Charlestowne Square office.
Neil Whitman, president of Dunhill Staf-fing Systems of Charleston, received the Certified Personnel Consultant designation from the National Association of Personnel Services.
Prem Devadas was the first recipient of the College of Charleston Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management Leadership Award. The department established the annual award to recognize a key industry leader who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the hospitality community. Devadas was the managing director of Kiawah Island Golf Resort and Sanctuary. He recently left the company to join Salamander Hospitality in the launch of a series of luxury inns and spas throughout North America.
Manny Gonzales and Clara Gonzales of Tiger Lily Florist were recognized as runners-up for the 2005 Small Business Awards given by the S.C. District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.
