REAL ESTATE

Weichert, Realtors Dean–Kelby announced the additions of several new employees. Richard S. Powell, a retired Navy chief petty officer, will focus on first-time homebuyers and empty nesters. Richard Hotto will serve the residential community in Charleston, Dorchester and Berkley counties. Marlene J. Beauston will serve the Charleston area, specializing in residential sales to first-time homebuyers and empty nesters. She previously spent 19 years with the VA Medical Center. Patti Gartrell has six years of real estate sales experience. She is a former registered nurse. Bonnie Driver is a former corrections officer and has experience in retails sales and as a vacation rental agent. She will specialize in residential sales.

Nancy Rehm joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as a real estate agent working in the Mount Pleasant office. Rehm was previously with Keller Williams Realty.

Avtex Commercial Properties Inc. hired Henry A. Futch Jr. as the leasing representative for The Market at Oakland, a mixed-use development in Mount Pleasant. Futch most recently was a partner with Kennel Management and bassist and vocalist for the Blue Dogs.

Trey Zimmerman joined Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic International as a sales agent. Zimmerman is an Air Force veteran and was previously employed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources as a marketing coordinator.

Dunes Properties of Charleston Inc. hired Danielle Hishon Hartley at its Folly Beach location. Hartley has experience with investment properties in the Charleston coastal area. Karleigh Hornick is the receptionist for the sales office at the Folly Beach office, and April Dudley will assist in managing rental properties. Alex Dumin is a sales agent working at the Isle of Palms office. Bill Gerard is a sales agent joining the new Mount Pleasant office.

Clement, Crawford, and Thornhill hired Lauren Scott as an associate. She handles commercial, retail and residential sales and leasing throughout the Charleston area.

EDUCATION

South Carolina lawyer Ralph C. McCullough II was named provost of the Charleston School of Law. McCullough, a faculty member at the University of South Carolina School of Law, is one of the founders of the Charleston School of Law. 

GOVERNMENT

Bob Mitchell joined the South Carolina State Ports Authority as staff engineer. Mitchell was previously a project engineer with HLA Inc.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Zafari Inc. named Andrew Turner its client services manager. Turner has a background in public relations, marketing and business management and has been an entrepreneur in the Charleston area for the past five years.

NEW BUSINESS

Iris Shedlock started Palmetto Family Wellness LLC, providing individualized health programs in patients’ homes or offices. Shedlock is a family wellness specialist.

AJR Insurance Consultants Inc., a public insurance adjuster, has opened in Mount Pleasant. It represents the consumer in property loss situations involving damage and insurance claims due to fire, hurricanes, floods, windstorms and other insured losses. Bruce Horowitz, president of the company, is a licensed public insurance adjuster with 20 years experience in this industry.

Melissa Lykins opened Black Dog Bike Shop in Mount Pleasant. The shop handles service, sales and repairs.

TECHNOLOGY

Richard “Dickie” Stoppelbein joined Teleco of Charleston as senior sales consultant, working with small businesses wanting to implement IP-based telephone systems. Stoppelbein returns to Teleco after working at eLifespaces in Mount Pleasant and operating his own business.

John Christensen was hired at SPAWAR in Expeditionary Command Control Communications Computers and Intelligence Systems. He is responsible for the coordination of electronic systems deployed for expeditionary warfare efforts and joint services programs in his division.

FINANCIAL

Mac R. Harley joined Scott & Stringfellow as senior vice president and financial advisor. Harley has been in the financial services industry for 37 years.

First Citizens named Jamey Douglas vice president and retail relationship manager at the Daniel Island branch. Douglas has worked in the banking industry locally for five years.

Chris Whiteside joined NEF/Carolina Capital Management as a financial representative in the Daniel Island office. Whiteside is a 2004 graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Leslie Norris was promoted to senior vice president of human resources and development at South Carolina Federal Credit Union. Norris has been with the Federal Credit Union human resources department for more than seven years, most recently serving as vice president.

Laura Noblin joined Brad Tapscott, a principal with McGuire, Tapscott, Hyden and Associates, a financial advisory branch of American Express Financial Advisors, as a client service specialist.

ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION

Joseph E. Ervin joined General Engineering & Environmental LLC as senior staff engineer. Ervin, who will lead the company’s civil engineering group, was previously a project manager for the firm Jordan, Jones & Goulding Inc.

Life Cycle Engineering hired Rey Marquez as senior consultant and John Cray as principal consultant. Marquez has more than 20 years of experience in the maintenance area, including knowledge of rotating equipment and reliability maintenance experience. Cray has 23 years of experience in the plant maintenance and equipment reliability fields.

Bryan Brooks joined Ralph Whitehead Associates as senior utility engineer, primarily working on utility coordination projects. Brooks has experience in the oversight of utility design and management of projects for state, municipal and private clients.

Trico Engineering Consultants Inc. hired Erica Kindl and Brian Keels. Kindl previously was the construction and development coordinator for Trademark Properties. Keels has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Clemson University.

RESTAURANTS

Mark Severs, who has been working at the Wentworth Mansion since 1998, was promoted to restaurant manager at the hotel’s on-site restaurant Circa 1886.

LAW

Buist Moore Smythe McGee PA named Paul E. Sperry as associate. Sperry will practice construction and general business litigation.

Amanda L. Callander joined real estate law firm Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor LLC as a partner. Callander will manage the firm’s new West Ashley office where she will concentrate her practice on residential and commercial real estate transactions. Previously, Callander was an associate attorney at McNair Law Firm in Charleston.

INDUSTRY

George Summerford joined MeadWestvaco’s Kraft Division as maintenance and engineering services manager for the North Charleston mill. Summerford has more than 30 years of experience within the paper industry and most recently was maintenance manager at International Paper’s Roanoke Rapids mill in North Carolina.

Rogers & Brown Custom Brokers Inc. has moved Pete Smith, president of Rogers & Brown Custom Brokers, to the position of president of Rogers & Brown North American Logistics and Brown Distribution Centers. Capers Barr IV is the president of the following divisions: Rogers & Brown Custom Brokers/BOSS International and International Trade Consultants.

MEDIA & MARKETING

Suzette Holmes purchased A Wonderful Wedding, a bridal guide publishing and bridal trade show production company. She also assumed ownership of The Charleston Chapel for Weddings. She will graduate from The University of Phoenix in June 2006 with a degree in business administration.

STAFFING SERVICES

Joan Graesch joined Dunhill Staffing Systems of Charleston as an executive recruiter, providing recruiting services for Dunhill’s manufacturing industry clients.

TRADE ASSOCIATION

Charleston Trident Association of Realtors made four staff changes. Lisa Grammer was hired as the administrative assistant to the bookkeeping and education departments. She will assist in billing, education course registration and education materials inventory. Grammer was previously employed with Megapix Productions. Laura Parker is the administrative assistant responsible for directing incoming calls, managing the Realtor store, coordinating monthly calendars and event registration. She was previously employed at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Sara Perry was named director of member services. Perry has been with the organization for more than three years and will now manage membership programs, events, fundraisers and community service activities. Amy Sandfort is director of marketing. She will manage all media relations and marketing services. Sandfort was previously an account manager at Bandy Carroll Hellige Public Relations in Kentucky.

SERVICE INDUSTRY

Harold Phillips joined Bradham Enterprises Inc., parent company of Carpet Care Services, and is serving in the area of marketing and business development. Phillips retired from State Farm Insurance, having been a property and casualty adjuster for more than 20 years.

David P. Brown joined Rice Planter Carpets Inc. as a corporate controller. Brown has more than 12 years experience in public and private accounting.

MARINE SERVICES

Capt. Anthony Noury is the new owner of Sea Tow Charleston, a division of Sea Tow Services International Inc., a marine assistance organization.
