BlueKey is a strategy, design and development firm that creates Web and mobile solutions, such as responsive Web design and Web app development, for small to midsized businesses.
Founder Ben Cash is currently renovating a 4,000-square-foot space, which he expects will be move-in ready by the end of the year. He is still deciding on a name for the space.
“I wanted to create a collaborative space where companies with like-minded cultures and creative work could collaborate,” Cash said.
The space also has space where startups could use workstations for a period. Cash wants to offer a suite of services to startups and Web-based companies, such as BlueKey’s mobile development solutions.
Cash founded BlueKey in 2000 in Virginia before relocating the firm to Charleston, where his business partner was located, in 2009. BlueKey currently employs 10 people.
Cash wants to share BlueKey’s culture with other companies in the space through weekly yoga classes, a full kitchen for tenants to cook meals and an open lounge and bar area for meetings or events.
“I see an amazing, burgeoning tech and creative community in Charleston,” Cash said. “I want to be a part of that and invest in Charleston — and what better way to do that than to renovate a building on East Bay Street and create a collaborative space for these growing companies?”
