Charleston Restaurant Week nixing standardized price categories

More than 140 Lowcountry restaurants are expected to participate in Charleston Restaurant Week to offer specially priced lunch and dinner menus beginning Wednesday and running through Sept. 14.

In years past, restaurants created special menus based on three courses for $20, $30 or $40. Those price categories will not be used during this installment of the event, which is hosted by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association Inc.

Restaurant Week menus are available online and the association’s free mobile app. Information on parking, the association’s members, photos of food and a tip calculator are also on the app.

During the event, visitors who book a hotel reservation at participating Charlestowne Hotels properties will also receive a 15% discount. And Charming Inns is also offering special Restaurant Week rates at some of its properties.

The association, which serves as the voice of the Charleston-area food service industry on government and public relations issues, also will host the 34th annual Taste of Charleston Sept. 26-28. The fundraiser will feature the Main Event, Sweet & Southern on Charleston Harbor and the Iron Chef Competition.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center, Hospitality Heroes, Shriners Hospitals for Children and Charleston County School District’s Science Materials Resource Center.
