Halls Chophouse was presented with an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine. Located at 434 King St., Halls Chophouse has more than 400 wines and is recognized in the Aug. 31 issue of Wine Spectator for its strong California and West Coast wines and for having the largest selection in the greater Charleston area.

In addition to Halls Chophouse, Hall Hospitality Group LLC owns Rita’s Seaside Grille at 2 Center Street on Folly Beach.

The Cocktail Club, at 479 King St., will kick off football season with a cocktail class focused on gameday drinks at noon Sept. 6. The creative development team at The Cocktail Club, including Jeremiah Schenzel, Matt Soeder and Ryan Welliver, will take guests through the making of several beverages that can be recreated easily on gameday.

Guests will be able to drink the cocktails while watching the games of the week. The class is $25 per person plus tax and tip. Reservations are required by Sept. 4; call 843-724-9411 to reserve.

The annual Ballpark Festival of Beers is slated for 6-9 p.m. Aug. 23 at Riley Park. Attendees can sample more than 100 varieties of beer including American and international ales, stouts, lagers, pilsners and specialty brews. Guests must be 21 or older.

The festival, which will be held rain or shine, will feature live music from The Blue Plantation Band and Midnight City, food trucks, corn hole games and beer sampling.

The first 2,500 people through the gates will receive a commemorative sampling glass. Food trucks will include The Kickin’ Chicken, Hello My Name is BBQ, Roti Rolls, Cast Iron and Lowcountry Creole.

Also, a contest will be held prior to the festival to find a new beer shake flavor that will be served at the event and during the last three RiverDogs games of the season. Contestants will select one beer, one ice cream flavor and one topping for a chance to win four tickets to the Ballpark Festival of Beers.

Advance tickets are $25 and may be purchased at any area Kickin’ Chicken location or at the RiverDogs box office or website. Day-of tickets are $30 at the box office or online. Designated driver wristbands cost $15 and will be available for purchase at the box office the day of the event only.
