Approximately 150 students will hear S.C. Ports Authority CEO Jim Newsome speak during the College of Charleston’s Graduate School graduation ceremony on May 7.

Newsome is expected to address graduates at 5:30 p.m. at TD Arena, according to a news release from the college.

Philanthropist Edwin S. Pearlstine will receive an honorary degree during the ceremony.

Newsome became president and CEO of the S.C. Ports Authority in 2009 and is the fifth leader in the history of the organization.

The college will host a reception on the concourse level of TD Arena immediately following the ceremony.

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott will be the commencement speaker for the CofC undergraduate ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., May 10 in the Cistern Yard.

More than 1,400 students are expected to receive degrees along with philanthropist Marlene Addleston and CofC Board of Trustees Emeriti Marie Land, who will receive honorary degrees.
