The Boeing Co. recently leased space and began upfits for its IT Center of Excellence in North Charleston, according to several March filings with Charleston County.
Boeing leased roughly 32,000 square feet of office space at 3875 Faber Place Drive, Suites 100 and 200, in North Charleston. Boeing originally signed a lease at 3875 Faber Place last May to provide temporary office space for some of its information technology workers.
Boeing also filed to upfit roughly 20,000-square-feet of interior space at 3860 Faber Place Drive, units 100 and 500, and 40,000-square-feet of space at 4340 Corporate Road in North Charleston, according to county documents.
HITT Contracting Inc. began the work for the IT Center of Excellence in late February, documents show. Boeing South Carolina did not return request for comment this morning before this story was posted online.
Boeing announced plans last year to add about 600 information technology jobs in North Charleston over the next three years as part of the company’s plan to reorganize its IT operations. In March 2013, Boeing announced plans to open IT centers in North Charleston, Puget Sound and St. Louis.
Boeing is in the process of relocating some of its IT workforce. Most recently, the aerospace giant announced the relocation of 1,000 jobs in Washington state, including many engineering employees, to Southern California.
Boeing also announced plans in December to establish R&D centers in North Charleston, Huntsville, Ala., California, St. Louis and Seattle. This would add 400 research jobs to Boeing’s Lowcountry operations.
The lease agreement for Faber Place Drive was made among Southern First Bank and several entities that serve as the landlord, including the Boeing Co., AVA Faber Place LLC, CHJ Faber Place LLC, R-WIN Faber Place LLC and EDANDJ Faber Place LLC, according to the filings.
