An online food video series that launched earlier this month has a new host.
Columbia-native Jack Burg was selected to host and star in The Desperate Chef, a monthly series by Charleston-based Charlie magazine in partnership with French cookware manufacturer Le Creuset, according to a news release.
Burg cooked often during childhood and has worked in numerous restaurants since he turned 16 years old. After moving to Charleston in 1996, Burg worked at Hominy Grill and Rue de Jean, a news release said.
He found the host position while perusing advertisements on Craigslist.
“After meeting with the folks at Charlie and cooking for them, I knew it was right up my alley,” Burg said in statement. “I’ll bring excitement, improvisation and versatility — also, some really good food.”
As host, Burg will surprise people at their homes and cook a meal with ingredients they have at hand, according to a news release. Burg will also produce weekly columns to accompany the video series on how to be resourceful in the kitchen.
Subscriptions to the free video series can be found at readcharlie.com.
