Construction is set to begin April 24 on a housing development in the Mixson neighborhood in North Charleston.

Jamestown — an Atlanta-based firm that acquires, develops and manages sites — plans for this phase of Mixson’s residential development to have about 79 single-family homes and 18 townhouses.

Previous coverage:

The homes will typically be two or three stories and roughly 1,600 to 2,000 square feet. The homes will start in the low- to mid-$300,000s.

The Mixson neighborhood sat mostly undeveloped after the first 18 homes were built in 2007. Construction picked back up last spring when Jamestown Properties began building the 268-unit The Flats at Mixson.

Mixson continues to recruit local architects and builders for the project. The first residences will be built by Reavis-Comer Development, Seaquest Development Co. and Sabal Homes.

The Mixson community includes The Flats at Mixson, Basico, Mixson Market, The Barn, and Mixson Bath & Racquet Club.

The groundbreaking will be held 8:30 a.m., April 24, at 4501 Mixson Ave. in North Charleston.
