In Charleston County, 19,790 more hotel rooms were sold last month compared with February 2013, an increase of 7.2%, a monthly hotel occupancy report said.

Charleston County’s hotel occupancy rose 6.9% to 68.8% in February when compared with the previous year, according to Smith Travel Research data released by the College of Charleston’s Office of Tourism Analysis and the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The average daily rate was $122.78 for February, up 2.3% from February 2013. The county has now had year-over-year average daily rate increases for 38 consecutive months, the report said. Charleston County’s revenue per available room was $84.69 for February, up 9.4% from the year prior.

Year to date, the county is up 7.5% in occupancy, 2.9% in average daily rate and 10.7% in revenue per available room.

J. Perrin Lawson III, deputy director of the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the peninsula was the only submarket to experience a decrease in total occupancy compared with 2013.

“This was primarily a result of group business cancellations during the two ice storms,” Lawson said in a statement.

Lawson added, despite the 3.3% dip in occupancy, the peninsula still managed to post a 4.8% increase in average daily rate and 1.3% in revenue per available room.
