North Charleston-based Idea LLC has acquired Nicaraguan Apparel Services S.A., a Nicaraguan warehouse operation.

This will be the fifth location in Idea’s existing network of warehouses in Honduras, El Salvador and Charleston. Idea is an international warehousing, distribution and freight-forwarding company focused on textile and apparel trade between the U.S. and Central America.

“We were well on our way to starting an operation from scratch in Managua when the N.A.S.S.A. opportunity presented itself. We share some of the same customers and can add significant new business to that operation instantly,” Idea President Tom DeMuth said in a statement. “Our trucks have operated there for years, and our customers have been pushing us towards a Managua warehouse recently.”

Nicaraguan Apparel Services is part of the Rocedes sewing group of Nicaragua and has been operating there since 2004.

Idea has five local employees and serves as the headquarters for a Central American business with 75 employees. The bulk of its customers are in the Carolinas.

Founded in 1999, Idea provides just-in-time inventory and supply chain management.
