A new consignment shop has opened in the upper Meeting Street area of downtown Charleston.

Hamilton Consignments, at 1563 Meeting St., was open off and on during December and soft launched in January. An official grand opening event is planned for Feb. 6.

The shop sells antique, midcentury and modern-contemporary furniture and accessories, according to owner Sharon Bruner. Currently, 18 people are consistently consigning items such as light fixtures, crystal chandeliers, French chairs, lamps and tables.

Bruner and her husband, who moved to Charleston in 1989, purchased the approximately 1,000-square-foot facility about seven or eight years ago, she said. Because of the recession, the couple wasn’t able to renovate the facility until last year.

“The only thing left was the four walls,” Bruner said. “We started from scratch.”

The store is now open from 1 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday. New consignments are being accepted.
