The U.S. Marine Corps awarded UEC Electronics a $1.42 million contract Wednesday to develop a system that will use solar collection and high-density batteries to reduce run time on tactical generators.
The Hanahan-based engineering and manufacturing company will develop, design and build two Mobile Electric Hybrid Power Systems over the next 18 months.
Last week, the Marine Corps had bought $12 million in equipment and network systems from UEC Electronics.
Founded in 1995, UEC Electronics currently employs 200 people.
