A new Harris Teeter grocery store will open in North Charleston on Wednesday, according to a news release.
Located at 9500 Dorchester Road, the 53,000-square-foot store will be open 24 hours a day, the company said. It will feature eight checkout lanes, four U-Scan self-checkout spots and a pharmacy. Western Union, Coinstar and Red Box DVD rental kiosks are also expected.
Harris Teeter will be the anchor store in a 166,962-square-foot North American Development Group shopping center known as the Corner at Wescott. The group’s website said Harris Teeter built the store at its own cost pursuant to a 20-year ground lease. It will be co-anchored by a 25,000-square-foot Marshalls clothing store, which is relocating to the property, the group said.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held during Harris Teeter’s grand opening at 8 a.m. Wednesday, and Jeff Helms will be the store’s director, the company said.
Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc., which entered into an agreement to be purchased by Kroger Co. in the fall, purchased seven Piggly Wiggly stores in October.
The grocer chain, headquartered in Matthews, N.C., employs approximately 25,000 associates and operates stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.
