While undergoing surgery after a dirt bike accident, Rob Duckworth had a stroke that paralyzed him from the waist down.

After the accident, Duckworth visited several places for treatment until 2011, when the Roper St. Francis Center for Spinal Cord Injury opened. Before going to the center, Duckworth was nervous and unsure where else he could turn to for help. He was the center’s first patient, and while there, he went through the program and found his way back to fishing and playing basketball.

Now he’s a volunteer at the center, where each month he greets patients and medical staff, offering support to everyone. His story and his positive outlook continue to change lives.
