A Swedish retail clothing store is opening its first Charleston location this week, according to a news release.
An H&M retail store will open Thursday at 218 King St. The 21,000-square-foot store will offer clothing collections for all ages along with accessories, lingerie and cosmetics, the company said.
“It’s a great accomplishment to open in Charleston, a historic city known for its rich history, well-preserved architecture and hospitality,” said Daniel Kulle, president of H&M in the United States, in a statement. “The South is a big focus for U.S. expansion, and we look forward to continued growth in 2014.”
To celebrate its King Street opening, H&M will offer a T-shirt and Access to Fashion Pass, valued from $10 to $300, to the first 300 shoppers in line, as the doors open at noon. The store’s regular shopping hours will be Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
H&M is the first fashion company to implement a global garment recycling program, according to the release. Customers will receive a 15% off voucher for each bag of donated clothing brought to the store. The old and unwanted pieces of clothing can be from any brand.
On opening day, customers who bring garments to be recycled before the store opens will have a chance to win H&M gift cards in addition to the voucher.
The H&M Group has approximately 3,000 stores in 53 markets, the release said.
