Halls Chophouse among top restaurants

A Charleston steakhouse placed in the top five of the OpenTable 2013 Diners’ Choice Top 100 Best Restaurants in America list, according to a news release.

Three other S.C. restaurants were included on the list, which ranks restaurants based on five million reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners.

Halls Chophouse, located at 434 King St., ranked No. 4 on the list, behind two California restaurants and a Hawaiian fish house. Also listed in the top 100 were Charleston Grill on King Street, Peninsula Grill on North Market Street and SeaBlue Restaurant & Wine Bar in North Myrtle Beach.

The reviews used to compile the list were from diners who visited approximately 19,000 restaurants between Nov. 14, 2012 and Nov. 15, 2013. The release said restaurants were sorted according to a score calculated from three areas: each restaurant’s average rating in the overall category, the restaurant’s rating relative to others in the same metropolitan area and the average number of restaurants reviewed by diners who reviewed the restaurant.

“These winning restaurants are conducted like great orchestras,” said Caroline Potter, OpenTable chief dining officer, in a statement. “All the players, from chefs and managers to waitstaff and sommeliers, have artfully mastered their parts, and every instrument of hospitality, whether it be deft service or imaginative menus, is in harmony with one another to create a symphonic dining experience.”

California and New York received the greatest number of winning restaurants with 14 and 13, respectively, the release said. Illinois had seven top-100 restaurants, and New Jersey and Pennsylvania boasted five each.
