Charleston-based Avocet Hospitality Group plans a $4.8 million renovation of Vendue Inn in downtown Charleston, which it acquired earlier this year.

As part of the project, Avocet also announced the creation of a new property — 26 Vendue — as well as a full renovation of 19 Vendue, the main structure at Vendue Inn.

Updates and restructuring will begin in mid-November.

Currently, Vendue Inn consists of 66 rooms, split between two buildings — 45 rooms in the Inn’s main building, 19 Vendue, located on the south side of the street, and 21 rooms in a separate building on the north side of the street, Avocet President Jonathan Weitz said in a news release.

“Under this restructuring, the rooms originally with Vendue on the north side and the 19 rooms belonging to the neighboring Anchorage Inn, which we acquired this summer, will be combined to create a 40-room hotel called 26 Vendue,” Weitz said.

While 26 Vendue and 19 Vendue will be operated as separate hotels, both will be marketed under the umbrella of The Vendue — dropping Inn from its name.

Refurbishments at 19 Vendue will include new bathrooms, furnishings and flooring, as well as metal canopy awnings. The overall layout of each structure will be redeveloped for a more open plan.

“When Avocet acquired The Vendue last year, the property consisted of five combined warehouse buildings that together comprised the property’s two main structures,” Weitz said. “While these buildings are representative of many historic Charleston spaces downtown, we look forward to updating these buildings to offer more comfortable and open meeting spaces for guests looking to socialize and relax.”

The property’s rooftop bar will also be renovated. Local partners LS3P and Hill Construction will manage the project. Renovations are expected to be complete by March 2014. During this time, 19 Vendue will be closed.
