A Columbus, Ga., bank with eight branches in the Lowcountry is creating an equipment financing group in Charleston for commercial banking customers.
Synovus Bank offers commercial and retail banking, investment and mortgage services across 280 offices in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee, the bank said in a news release.
John Geist, who serves as president of equipment finance for Synovus, will direct the team of bankers in selling several equipment financing products, the bank said. Before joining Synovus, Geist served as executive vice president of Bank of America/NationsBank’s Corporate Banking Group and later as president of leasing and equipment finance.
In addition to the initial six bankers devoted to the Charleston operation, the group will add positions in both sales and support areas, Synovus said.
“As the economy recovers, the market for this product is expected to experience tremendous growth, because it gives business owners a lending alternative for investing in the equipment needed to start and grow their businesses,” said Curtis Perry, Synovus chief commercial banking officer.
