The Sweet Tea Trail aims to guide residents and tourists from the Interstate-26 interchange at exit 199 through the five districts of Summerville to learn its history.
Starting with the shops and restaurants at Azalea Square, the trail continues to historic downtown Summerville. From there, the trail visits Azalea Park and the Colonial Dorchester State Park. It concludes with the scenic Plantation District, Middleton Place, Magnolia Gardens and Drayton Hall Plantation.
The 2013 Leadership Dorchester Class of the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber began in April to promote the trail as their annual project. It raised funds to have banners placed along the Sweet Tea Trail to lead visitors into the community.
The class also helped to bring the Summerville Trolley Tours to Summerville. The 1 1/2-hour tour will showcase Summerville’s historic homes, downtown and tea plantations.
