The Old Village Post House in Mount Pleasant is hosting a French wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 with French wine specialist Antoine Collet, and featuring wines from the Kobrand portfolio. Collet is originally from Champagne, France, and has worked in the hospitality industry for the past 20 years. He is a French specialist for Kobrand Wine & Spirits, which has been around since 1944 and imports and markets hand-selected brands from virtually every major wine region of the world, as well as specialty spirits.
The menu includes buckwheat bilini, Calico Bay scallops, Duxelles crusted Scottish salmon, braised venison short rib, and port wine poached pear. The dinner is $75 plus tax and tip. Reservations are required; call 843-388-8935.
Halls Chophouse will host two luncheons, on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, to benefit Debi’s Kids. The organization, which provides holiday gifts for some 5,000 Lowcountry children at Christmastime, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
This year, Debi’s Kids is focusing on active toys, gifts and sporting goods to keep Lowcountry children physically fit.
Each luncheon will feature a silent and live auction of autographed wine bottles from the Robert Maguire autograph collection, which has signatures from more than 100 celebrities in music, sports, entertainment, business and politics, including Jack Nicklaus, Charlton Heston, Sonny Bono, Etta James, Bill Gates, Robin Williams, Jeff Gordon, Johnny Bench, Bill Cosby and Warren Buffett. Proceeds from the autograph auction will benefit Debi’s Kids.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at noon. Tickets are $30 per person; call 800-838-3006 for reservations.
On Wednesday several local restaurants will donate 5% of their sales to nonprofit local food hub GrowFood Carolina to support its mission of helping farmers revitalize the local food system.
