Pacific Shore Stones plans to expand to Charleston with its acquisition of Charleston-based World Stone Distributors.

This will be the 13th location for Pacific Shore Stones, an importer and wholesaler of exotic natural stones. The financial details of the transaction were not released.

“The company we acquired already has a strong presence in Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head,” Pacific Shore Stones Operating Partner Vinny Tavares said in a news release. “We plan to build on this and grow into the northern part of South Carolina. Looking to the future, we would like to add another East Coast location next year.”

The company will move into a 43,000-square-foot warehouse at 414 Jessen Lane to house its stones, including granite, marble, travertine, onyx, limestone, soapstone and engineered stones.

Pacific Shore Stones will be quadrupling the amount of inventory that World Stone Distributors offers, the company said in a statement. It will keep the existing staff in Charleston and add location manager Allen Morris, who has been with Pacific Shore Stones for six years.

“It fits perfectly with our strategy of opening in second-tier cities; the population of greater Charleston is around 800,000,” Tavares said. “On top of that, it’s a port city, which allows us to use it as a hub for the Southeast, servicing our existing location in Birmingham, Al., but also opening up our distribution capabilities to North and South Carolina, Georgia, northern Florida and southern Alabama.”

The Austin, Texas-based company distributes its stone through 13 company-owned distribution centers across the U.S.

It was recently ranked No. 2,658 on the 2013 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing companies in North America, with a three-year sales growth rate of 132%.

Established in 2004, Pacific Shore Stones has developed joint ventures with quarries in Brazil, Italy, Spain, India and Turkey.
