Daimler Vans expanding operations in North Charleston

Daimler Vans Manufacturing announced plans today to expand its existing van assembly plant in Charleston County, with an investment of more than $4.6 million that is expected to generate at least 60 new jobs.

The company, a subsidiary of Daimler AG, will make improvements to the building and changes to its current assembly line at 8501 Palmetto Commerce Parkway in North Charleston. The company expects to complete the expansion by 2018.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development, part of the S.C. Commerce Department, approved job development credits for the expansion.

The company announced plans for its North Charleston assembly plant in 2005. Daimler distributes its vans from the facility to markets throughout North America. Daimler Vans Manufacturing LLC assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner brands.
