The Army selected two Lowcountry companies and other businesses for a $33 million contract to overhaul its active and reserve vessels located on the East and Gulf coasts.
Detyens Shipyards in North Charleston and Metal Trades Inc. in Hollywood were among the 10 businesses included in the contract.
The contract calls for dry-docking, cleaning, painting, repairing and modifying the Army ships, and each order will determine work location. The Army expects work to finish by February 2016.
The U.S. Army Contracting Command in Virginia issued the contract, which received 10 bids.
