Charleston has six chances to claim a James Beard Foundation award winner this year.

Four chefs and two restaurants were named semifinalists for the 2013 awards, which highlight achievements in the food and beverage industry.

Chef Jeremiah Bacon of The Macintosh, chef Craig Deihl of Cypress and chef Joshua Keeler of Two Boroughs Larder were all named semifinalists for the title of Best Chef Southeast. Chef Sean Brock of McCrady’s has a chance at being named Outstanding Chef.

The Ordinary was named a semifinalist in the Best New Restaurant category, while Charleston Grill at Charleston Place Hotel was named a semifinalist for Outstanding Wine Program.

Last year, four Charleston chefs were named semifinalists, but none took home awards. The city most recently claimed an award when Sean Brock won Best Chef Southeast in 2010.

The Best Chef Southeast award also went to Charleston chef Mike Lata of FIG in 2009 and Robert Stehling of Hominy Grill in 2008.
