A number of local restaurants will be offering a special entree Friday and Saturday with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pet Helpers, in recognition of International Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.

Paulz on James Island and in Mount Pleasant; La Fontana in West Ashley and North Charleston; Mondo’s Italian Restaurant, 915 Folly Road in Charleston; Parson Jack’s Cafe, 3417 G Shelby Ray Court in Charleston; and Three Little Birds Cafe, 95 Windermere Blvd. in Charleston.
In an effort to decrease the number of unwanted litters, Pet Helpers Greer Spay/Neuter Clinic performs thousands of spay and neuter surgeries each year. The clinic adjoins the Pet Helpers Adoption Center at 1447 Folly Road and is open to the public four days a week.
The ninth annual Respite Care Charleston Betty Cannon Golf Tournament is at 11 a.m. March 18 at the Crooked Oaks Golf Course on Seabrook Island. Those who don’t want to play golf can join a guided nature walk at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center. Respite Care Charleston offers programs and guidance to Charleston families dealing with Alzheimer's disease, as well as vascular dementia and other forms of cognitive impairment.
Engineers Without Borders is hosting an oyster roast on the deck at Bowens Island at 4 p.m. Feb. 17. Tickets are $20; bring your own beverages. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 11. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

The Graduate School at the College of Charleston's Masters of Environmental Studies Student Associations is hosting the 11th annual 8K for H20 on Feb. 23 starting at the Folly Beach Pier. The Lowcountry Parrot Head Club will host the ninth annual Mardi Crawl on Shem Creek Feb. 23. Registration begins at noon at Red’s Ice House, and then from 1 to 6 p.m., participants will travel in groups to each of six participating restaurants on Shem Creek. The restaurants will feature food and drink specials, games and live entertainment. After visiting all locations, participants will meet at Red’s Ice House for the official after-party featuring live music from Homemade Wine.
Participating restaurants include Red’s Ice House, RB’s Seafood, Vickery’s Bar & Grill, Shem Creek Bar & Grill, Water’s Edge and Shelter. Proceeds benefit the South Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and other local charities. Registration is available for $25 in advance at www.lcparrotheads.org or for $30 at the event. The registration price includes an event T-shirt, koozie and prizes throughout the day.
A new series of seminars called the “Road to Homeownership” is being offered by the Homeownership Resource Center, and sponsored and facilitated by Complete Action Real Estate Services Inc.
The seminars will focus on the advantages and disadvantages in owning a home. The first seminar topic is "Renting vs. Buying" and will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 4925 Lacross Road, Suite 105, in North Charleston. The workshop is free but space is limited. Register online or call 843-735-7862.
